Giving 150 gifts to Khmer people on the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet

On the afternoon of April 13, in Can Tho, Mr. Tran Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, Central Agencies - led a delegation from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to visit and present gifts on the occasion of the traditional Tet Chol Chnăm Thmây 2026 of the Khmer ethnic people.

On behalf of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the working delegation, Mr. Tran Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, central organizations sent to the monks, Achar priests and all Khmer ethnic compatriots the best New Year wishes.

Mr. Tran Thang emphasized that in 2026, Chôl Chnăm Thmây Tet takes place in the atmosphere of the whole country excitedly celebrating the very good success of the 14th National Party Congress; successfully organizing the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term; preparing to organize the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2026 - 2031; the starting year of the 5-year socio-economic development plan for the 2026 - 2031 period; the entire political system shall streamline the organizational structure to be efficient, effective, efficient, close to the people, and serve the people better and better.

With that meaning, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front proposed that all levels, sectors, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations of Can Tho City continue to concretize the Party's guidelines, policies, and laws of the State with practical and effective tasks.

At the same time, promptly and effectively implement ethnic and religious policies; promote propaganda and mobilize Khmer people to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and policies associated with preserving and promoting good traditional cultural values.

Pay attention to caring for all aspects of life of all strata of people, including Khmer people; prepare good conditions and have timely support policies for policy families and vulnerable people, so that Khmer ethnic people can celebrate the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay Tet happily, safely and in accordance with the civilized lifestyle and good cultural traditions of the Khmer ethnic group.

Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City said that after implementing the merger of administrative units, Can Tho City will have an area scale of 6,360.83 km2, with 103 commune and ward-level administrative units (31 wards and 72 communes), with a population of about 3.85 million people.

Can Tho has 28 ethnic groups living together, of which 668,812 are ethnic minorities (accounting for 17.37%); Khmer people alone have 543,266 people (accounting for 14.11%), concentrated in 38 communes and wards of ethnic minority areas, with 406 hamlets/areas, of which 164 hamlets are particularly difficult.

In the city, there are currently 13 religious organizations recognized by the State, with 467 affiliated organizations, 752 religious establishments, more than 1,500 dignitaries, 3,500 officials and about 1.35 million followers, accounting for over 42% of the total population of the city.

After the merger, the whole city has 157 Khmer Southern Buddhist facilities, including 120 pagodas, 37 salas with about 2,260 monks. This is the core force in preserving cultural identity, and also an effective bridge between the government and Khmer people.

At the visit and Tet celebration of Chol Chnam Thmay, the organizers presented 50 gifts to dignitaries, officials, Achars and prestigious people in the community. 100 gifts were also sent to individuals, poor Khmer households and policy families.
