President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua and held talks with the Korean Trade Union Federation

The reception is especially meaningful as it takes place before the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Nicaragua (September 3, 1979 - September 3, 2024).

Exchanging information at the meeting, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang said that the status of the Vietnam Trade Union as stipulated in the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a socio-political organization of the working class and of workers, established on the basis of voluntariness, representing workers, caring for and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers.

Comrade Nguyen Dinh Khang affirmed that the Vietnam Trade Union welcomes the decision of the Nicaragua Government to open a Nicaragua Embassy in Vietnam. Vietnam Trade Union is very pleased to see the two countries effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms in many fields such as trade economy, security, agriculture, as well as coordinating and supporting each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.

On this occasion, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang expressed his confidence that the Ambassador, during his term, will continue to promote the development of the cooperation strengths of the two countries; have many initiatives that have contributed positively to the development of traditional friendship, and successfully complete his term of office in Vietnam. In particular, the focus is on promoting cooperation between the Vietnam Trade Union and the Trade Union organization of the Republic of Nicaragua.

President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang affirmed his desire to continue promoting and developing the friendship, solidarity and cooperation in many aspects with Nicaragua. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will actively coordinate with the Embassy in implementing and organizing activities to enhance mutual understanding, foster good friendship and effective cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Nicaragua in general and between workers and trade unions of the two countries in particular.

The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also expressed his hope that the Ambassador will help connect and introduce partner organizations to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and units under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to promote the first step in people-to-people exchanges and trade union cooperation between the two sides. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is ready to support to connect with units, localities, and enterprises in the Vietnam Trade Union organization system to promote cultural, economic, and trade union cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Mario Jose Armengol Campos wished to affirm the diplomatic relationship between the two countries and between the two trade union organizations. The 45 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Nicaragua demonstrate the friendship, cooperation and common points between Nicaragua and Vietnam. Discussing his duties, Mr. Mario Jose Armengol Campos said that in addition to diplomatic relations, he also has the task of tightening solidarity between the two Parties and the two Trade Union organizations.

On the same afternoon, there was also a meeting between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Korean Trade Union Federation. The two sides agreed to protect the rights of workers working abroad.

Talks between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Korean Trade Union Federation were chaired by comrades Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; comrade Kim Dongmyeong - President of the Korean Trade Union Federation (FKTU).

Since the establishment of the relationship in 1993, the bilateral cooperative relationship between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and FKTU has continuously developed, becoming more and more effective and practical. Currently, there are 8 industry unions and 12 local labor federations under the Vietnam Trade Union with cooperative relationships and delegation exchanges with provincial and municipal trade union federations in Korea.

The multifaceted friendly cooperation between the two trade unions has been effectively implemented in many areas in recent times, such as cooperation in exchanging information and experience in the fields of protection of the rights of young workers, older workers, female workers, gender equality and forced labor; promoting positive policies to create jobs and combat unemployment, promoting social insurance, social security, labor laws, raising minimum wages, occupational safety and hygiene and the environment.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the socio-economic situation, the workers' movement and trade union activities. Here, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang said about the general goals for the 2023-2028 term, the breakthroughs set by the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

Vietnam Trade Union will continue to pay attention to important tasks such as participating in the process of developing and making policies and laws related to labor to protect workers from a distance and on a large scale; participating in the National Wage Council, determining the annual minimum wage increase to ensure the minimum living standard of workers; maintaining a dialogue mechanism with the Government and the Prime Minister to resolve major issues of concern to workers; maintaining a dialogue mechanism with the National Assembly through a Workers' Forum chaired by the National Assembly Chairman to create conditions for representatives of voters who are union members to express their thoughts, aspirations, proposals, and recommendations to the National Assembly, National Assembly leaders on policies and laws related to workers and Trade Union activities...

The two sides spent a lot of time exchanging experiences in resolving a number of issues related to the Korean labor market; the organizational model of foreign workers in Korea; the negotiation mechanism... Accordingly, FKTU is currently trying to build policies to protect foreign workers working in Korea.

Also at the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang respectfully thanked FKTU and the Chairman of FKTU personally for sending condolences and encouragement to the Trade Union organization, Vietnamese workers as well as the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he passed away.

The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor highly appreciated the effective and diverse cooperative relationship with FKTU. The two sides hope to continue to pay attention to and maintain annual exchanges of high-level bilateral delegations, deepen cooperation activities between sectors and local labor federations of the two countries, and enhance experience sharing on issues of mutual concern; especially demonstrating solidarity in international forums.
