Tet is far from home but warm with humanity in Da Nang
The New Year's atmosphere is bustling everywhere, but it is also the time when workers in Da Nang have to stay in Da Nang to celebrate Tet.
Workers' Tet away from home
The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Chien - a worker at Hoa Cam Industrial Park - is also a single mother raising 2 young children. This year, it has been 4 years since Ms. Chien and her 3 children returned to their hometown in Quang Binh to celebrate Tet.
"My two children are of school age, so the cost of going to school and eating clothes is quite large. With my salary, I won't be able to spend enough for this Tet holiday," Ms. Chien confided.
Ms. Pham Thi Lien, from Quang Ninh province, is currently a worker in Hoa Cam Industrial Park and has not returned home for Tet with her family for the past 6 years.
"My eldest daughter is in her third year of university, the cost is high but the salary of workers is low. Each train trip cost nearly 2 million to leave, and there are also gifts for cakes for Tet. I thought it would take a while, so I stopped staying for a few years to take care of my child's education," Ms. Lien choked up.
The Union bus organized by the Da Nang City Labor Federation could not return to Quang Ninh, so workers like Ms. Lien had to sadly stay in Da Nang for another Tet holiday.
