Enthusiastic female union leader of Can Tho at the age of 52
At the age of 52, the female union leader recognized that she had escaped her comfort zone and confidently demonstrated her mettle.
Ms. Phan Thi Thu - Head of the Emergency Department Trade Union Group (Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital Trade Union) has just won the Third Prize in the Final round of the first Excellent Youth Union Committee Competition in 2024 held on December 6 in Hanoi.
Returning to Can Tho and having the opportunity to talk about the celebration of participating in the contest organized by the Vietnam Health Trade Union, Ms. Thu confided that at first, when it was launched, she only thought about participating in the spirit of responding to the industry and did not dare to "dream" about winning a prize. When the Organizing Committee informed her to enter the preliminary round, she still did not dare to believe the truth.
"I am very happy and joyful but also worried because I have never participated in any competition, partly because I am old and self-conscious. However, thanks to the encouragement and motivation of grassroots union members and industry unions, I was able to boldly compete and escape my comfort zone at the age of over 50" - Ms. Thu said.
For the female union leader, the Third Prize in this competition was a great success. It is not only a meaningful achievement but also marks a personal breakthrough, not being shy and indifferent at any age.
"This achievement is a personal effort, support and encouragement from colleagues and the Emergency Department, leaders of Can Tho City Obstetrics Hospital, and the Can Tho Health Sector Trade Union. The contest organized by the Vietnam Health Trade Union is truly a useful playground for union members to dare to express themselves" - Ms. Thu happily said.
After the competition, Ms. Thu seems to have more energy in taking care of people's health to contribute to the health sector. With the trade union organization, she is more confident that it will bring practical benefits to union members and workers.
"At the Trade Union of Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, there are cases of union officials who have retired but have serious illnesses, and have called for support in a humane spirit. That is also the reason why for the past 26 years, I have been attached to and enthusiastically participated in activities organized by the union" - Ms. Thu said.
It is known that Ms. Thu had previously been honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister in 2022; title of Meritorious Doctor in 2024 and many other certificates of merit from the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Can Tho Department of Health.
"We hope that through Ms. Thu's story, we can spread the spirit of enthusiasm to union members in their professional work as well as participate in union organization activities. Thereby, contributing to the common development of the Health Sector Trade Union in particular and the Vietnam Trade Union in general", said Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ly - Chairwoman of the Can Tho City Health Sector Trade Union.
The first Excellent Health Trade Union Official Competition in 2024 is a forum for health union officials nationwide to have the opportunity to exchange, learn, and share experiences; improve awareness, professional capacity, and practical skills for union officials.
