Nearly 30 years... holding a broom

Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh was born in 1969 in Quech village - a traditional fireworks craft village in Binh Minh commune, Thanh Oai district, Hanoi city. In 1999, after the fireworks industry ceased, Ms. Oanh worked at Ha Dong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company as a cleaning worker.

After nearly 30 years of hard work, Ms. Oanh is now the Head of Production Team No. 2, Environmental Team No. 3 and the Deputy Secretary of the exemplary Party Cell with many outstanding achievements in work and life that many workers have always followed and learned from.

As someone who has been used to manual labor since childhood, she thought that cleaning work would be much more difficult for her, but it was much more difficult for her to be an environmental worker than she thought. The biggest difficulty of the profession does not come from the workload but mostly from social prejudice.

Working as a professional in contact with waste and people always have a strong smell of sweat and garbage, so she and her colleagues have many times encountered somewhat resentful looks from others while working.

Ms. Oanh shared: At times like that, I feel very sorry for myself but always try to encourage the companys staff to try to overcome them to complete the work assigned by the company. I believe that when I do my job well, I will definitely be recognized by the leaders, as well as the people. Fortunately, the number of people with such prejudices is not much and is gradually decreasing.

During holidays and Tet, when everyone has a break, environmental sanitation workers like Ms. Oanh are the busiest time. On the nights of the 30th of Tet, when the house gathers around New Year's Eve to wait for the moment of transition between the old year and the new year, the workers of the environmental company increase their shifts to clean up.

Many times during those New Year's Eve shifts, the women, children and even Ms. Oanh were filled with tears of self-pity. However, unable to let emotions dominate too much, Ms. Oanh often tries to make a joke or tell a cheerful story to keep people's spirit excited again. And when the moments of stagnation passed, everyone rushed to gather and clean up the trash.

Ms. Oanh said: "We cannot welcome the first moment of the new year with our family, but we can make the streets clean on the first day of the new year so that everyone when stepping out to play in the spring can be happy, joyful and flooded".

Coming by fate, staying by love

The profession of environmental sanitation workers is already difficult and tiring, many people have to give up to find other jobs that are more leisurely and cleaner. To be able to continue in the profession for such a long time, Ms. Oanh always finds joy in her work to encourage herself and her colleagues when tired.

First of all, it is necessary to mention the recognition of the leaders for the efforts of the workers. Ms. Oanh said: "Although the salary compared to the social level is not high now, spending in life is not at the level of comfort, but it is stable. In addition, due to working part-time, in addition to working at the company, we still have time to take advantage of other jobs during the break to improve our income.

The Company's Trade Union always cares about employees, has a periodic health check-up every year, and has a timely holiday or disadvantage allowance for employees in difficult circumstances".

In addition to the responsibility for the job that has kept her attached for a long time, there is also the responsibility for her two daughters. Sharing with reporters in a proud voice: I am just a garbage collector, but thanks to this job, my two daughters have grown up and have stable jobs as they are today. In society, there may be incorrect views of our profession, but in my family, especially the two daughters, from their childhood until they grew up to become bankers, doctors have never been worried about their mother's profession."

Ms. Do Thi Huyen, Ms. Oanh's colleague, expressed: "As a team leader, when there are storms or hot weather, I do not hesitate to shake hands to work together quickly. When the family of the group members has work, she is always there to share. For us, Ms. Oanh is not only a patriarchal person but also a relative in the family.

Continuing family traditions

Born into a family with a revolutionary tradition when his father was a soldier participating in the fight to protect the country. After peace was restored, he joined the team of enthusiastic workers at Tu Liem Brick Factory.

The image of her father - a worker party member has been deeply imprinted in Ms. Oanh's mind since she was a child. When they got married, most of the husband's family members were party members, Ms. Oanh felt more deeply about those in the Party.

She said that the family is full of party members, so every time they meet, it is like a small party cell meeting. Each time, she learned, changed a little bit in her ideology, awareness and desire to be in the ranks of her Party.

In particular, the two domestic workers, her father-in-law and brother-in-law (Ha Dong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company), are shining examples, inspiring her to learn and be determined to overcome all difficulties and challenges to become a Party member.

Ms. Oanh strives to join the Party to set an example for her children, that no matter the circumstances, conditions or work, she must try to improve herself.

Singer Oanh sadly recalled the sacred moment of her life and emotionally said: In the moment I took the oath under the Party flag, I could not hold back my tears of emotion. So, together with my husband, I was a Party member to set an example for my children to strive to learn from in the future.

Higher responsibility

Entering the Party in 2005 and officially a year later, the workload is still the same as before, but Ms. Oanh feels that she must have higher responsibility than before. She always tries to encourage brothers and sisters at work, especially closely following each situation and case of each member of the production team to promptly share difficulties.

She always promptly recognizes manifestations such as decreased productivity or depression at work. At that time, the first thing Ms. Oanh did was not to punish but to find out what their problem was to care for and encourage them in a timely manner to help reassure their minds.

It is because of the enthusiasm of the Party members that Ms. Oanh has touched and inspired other colleagues who are also eager to join the Party. From a Party member to Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell of Environmental Team No. 3, Ms. Oanh has guided and guided three masses to join the Party: Hoang Kim Nam, Nguyen Thi Le, Nguyen Thi Tuoi.

Ms. Oanh said: "These are all elite groups and have a desire to become party members. Realizing this, I stood side by side with those comrades to both help and encourage them to complete the tasks assigned by the team. At the same time, they are also trained in political awareness to be eligible to become party members.

I propose organizing expanded Party cell activities so that not only Party members but also the masses can be imbued with the Party's thoughts and policies."

Ms. Luu Thi Hong Tuong, Party Cell Secretary, Captain of Environmental Team No. 3, under Ha Dong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, commented: "Both "carrying the role" of the union and "carrying the role" of the Party Cell, Ms. Oanh is very enthusiastic, energetic and always close-minded to take care of the brothers and sisters in the group, from company work to family work.

It can be said that the addition of Ms. Oanh to the Party makes the Party cell increasingly strong, so that the Party cell can both lead and direct but also be a place to gather strength and the center of solidarity".

According to Ms. Tuong, Ha Dong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company has 75 Party members and 8 Party cells. Of which, the Party Cell of Environmental Team No. 3 where Ms. Oanh lives has 9 Party members with more than 100 people. Ms. Oanh is one of the exemplary Party members who contributes to making the Party cell increasingly strong, thereby improving the productivity of labor and the lives of the brothers and sisters in the team.

With her efforts, Ms. Oanh has received many achievements, from the certificate of "Good at public work, good at housework" to the certificate of merit from the Hanoi City Labor Federation, the title of "Good worker in the capital" ... And there are many other achievements that Ms. Oanh cannot remember because for her the most valuable certificate of merit is the radiant smile of everyone every day when witnessing the clean streets.

As a Party member, she is not afraid and will continue to work silently and hard on environmental sanitation, to leave her fragrant aroma forever.
