Children need to learn deeply to not be overtaken by AI

In the era of digital technology and rapidly developing artificial intelligence, the world is becoming more volatile, unpredictable and more insecure than ever.

At the SenTia Talk seminar with the theme "What to prepare for children in the VUCA - BANI era?", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Nam - Vice Rector of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) - said that VUCA is an abbreviation of four characteristics: volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity - factors that make predicting the future more difficult than before.

He said that in the past, many people believed that just studying well, having a degree and working hard would achieve success. However, nowadays, even plans that seemed certain could be broken by events such as pandemics, economic crises or technological changes.

In the VUCA - BANI world, successful people often fall into two groups. The first group is pioneers with new ideas, daring to go their own way. The second group is people who learn quickly, adapt quickly and improve existing models" - Mr. Nam analyzed.

From this reality, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Nam believes that education needs to change its approach. If children only learn according to the beaten path, receive knowledge one-way and lack critical thinking, they will find it very difficult to adapt to a volatile environment.

In this era, the important thing is not to learn a lot of knowledge, but the ability to innovate and create, ask questions and dare to experiment with other ways of doing things" - Mr. Nam emphasized.

The teacher also recommends that parents should help their children identify areas of interest early to study deeply instead of scattered learning. AI provides knowledge quickly, but people need to understand deeply to analyze, criticize and be creative.

From a technology perspective, AI expert Tran Tuan Linh - Founder & Director of UNIKON Technology - believes that parents should help their children form digital thinking early and know how to use AI as a support tool in learning and work.

According to him, in the future, the advantage will belong to those who know how to exploit AI effectively, instead of directly competing with technology.

AI can process data and perform many tasks faster than humans, but humans still play the role of making decisions, taking responsibility and orienting" - Mr. Linh assessed.

Children need inner stability in a volatile world

From an educational and psychological perspective, Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Minh - Lecturer at the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi National University of Education, Professional Advisor for Social Sciences at SenTia School - believes that the VUCA - BANI world not only poses external challenges but also creates a lot of psychological pressure for each person.

According to her, when living in a constantly changing and unpredictable environment, many people are prone to anxiety, fear of making decisions or dependence on the majority's opinions.

What is worrying is not only whether we are successful or not, but the feeling of insecurity inside each person when facing a world with too many changes" - Ms. Minh shared.

Therefore, in addition to knowledge and skills, parents need to help their children build inner stability, self-reflection and self-understanding ability.

According to Ms. Minh, truly talented people often possess "hidden knowledge" - accumulated from long-term experience and reflection, which technology can hardly replace.

In the AI era, the ability to learn deeply, contemplate and accumulate personal experiences will become a great advantage for people" - Ms. Minh said.
