Strive to have at least 1,300 km of expressway in the Mekong Delta by 2030
Can Tho - At the end of this term, the Mekong Delta will have 600 km of expressway and strive to have at least 1,300 km of expressway by 2030, nearly 100 km higher than previously expected.
On the afternoon of April 21, in Can Tho City, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting on the implementation of key transport projects in the Southern region.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that in the special context, with special efforts and methods, the implementation of the projects has achieved special results.
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, up to now, the projects have exceeded the set targets, in which the horizontal expressway (Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang) is planned to be completed in 2027, but striving to complete in July 2026, the vertical axis (Can Tho - Ca Mau) must be completed by December 19, 2025 at the latest.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that projects must be on schedule and ahead of schedule; ensure and improve quality; do not overcharge capital or increase prices. At the same time, no corruption or negativity will occur, ensuring environmental hygiene and restoration.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that all 3 technical issues, raw materials and capital have been resolved, therefore, he assigned Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to continue directly directing the final handling of related issues.
With experience, confidence, courage, and maturity after 4 years, we need to do more, better, stronger, more fast, more bold in the spirit of the Great Spring Victory in 1975 in developing transport infrastructure for the Mekong Delta as well as other strategic infrastructure, each year is better than the previous year, the next term is higher than the previous term, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh oriented in the coming time.
Regarding roads, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed that by the end of this term, the Mekong Delta will have 600 km of expressway and strive to have at least 1,300 km of expressway by 2030, nearly 100 km higher than previously expected.
For aviation, expand Phu Quoc, Ca Mau, Rach Gia airports, localities promote proactive spirit, carry out site clearance.
As for the sea route, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned specific tasks in implementing major port projects including Cai Cui, Tran De, and Hon Khoai.
Regarding river roads and existing planning, the Ministry of Construction designs models for inland waterway ports and provinces to review, proactively and decide on projects according to their authority.
Regarding railways, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed and prepared to start construction of the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho railway in 2027, Can Tho - Ca Mau in 2028.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the synchronous development of transportation in the Mekong Delta in the spirit of "clear people, clear work, clear time, clear products, clear responsibilities, clear progress" and "working together, enjoying together, developing together, winning together, sharing together". In particular, the principle of "3 yes" ( interests of the state, people, businesses) and "2 no's" (corruption, waste) was emphasized.
