The traffic intersection on the expressway worth more than VND34,000 billion will start construction in 2025

Unfinished for nearly 7 years

Since September 2018, the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway (Km0+000 - Km139+204) has passed through 3 provinces and cities: Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai with a total investment of more than 34,000 billion VND, officially opening the entire route. The project is invested by Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

Although the expressway has been open to traffic for nearly 7 years, the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection, located in Binh Nguyen and Binh Chanh communes (Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province) is still unfinished and desolate. This is the last of the 8 intersections on the entire Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway that have not been connected, despite being one of the most important intersections.

The Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection is part of package A3 constructed by Giang To (China). The A3 package is 10.6 km long, with a total value of about 1,360 billion VND from loans from the World Bank (WB). In November 2018, VEC admitted that the roundabout connecting the expressway with Tri Binh - Dung Quat port road sank beyond the permitted level. According to the plan, by June 2019, the contractor will have overcome the subsidence, but until now the project is still "stuck on site".

Strive to complete within 6 months

According to the reporter's source, the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) has received a proposal from the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province regarding the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project. The Provincial People's Committee has sent an official dispatch requesting VEC to resolve remaining problems such as: site clearance, investment in completing the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection, and early deployment of rest stops on the expressway. However, it has not been resolved yet. Quang Ngai province has requested the Ministry of Construction to direct VEC to promptly implement.

According to VEC's report, in the recommendations of Quang Ngai province, there are still some outstanding issues that are being handled. VEC is directing consultants to complete the investment project adjustment dossier to submit to the Ministry of Construction for approval in March 2025, as a basis for implementing the remaining items of the project, including compensation, support and resettlement.

According to the report, the total cost of site clearance for the section passing through Quang Ngai province will be updated by VEC into the total adjusted investment of the project.

Regarding the investment in completing the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection, VEC will arrange capital sources and submit to the Ministry of Construction for approval in the investment project adjustment dossier, to continue construction in the second quarter of 2025. It is expected that the project will be completed within 6 months (before December 2025), in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.

Regarding the investment in rest stops on the North - South expressway in the East in general and the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway in particular, the Ministry of Construction has approved the location, location, scale of construction and directed implementation. VEC will arrange investment capital, propose investment forms for rest stops and submit to the Ministry of Construction for approval in the investment project adjustment dossier to implement construction, to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.
