People are excited about the merger of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai

Proposal to retain on-site staff when merging Quang Ngai - Kon Tum
On April 15, in Kon Plong district (Kon Tum), the Standing Committee of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee to implement a number of contents related to the merger of provincial-level administrative units under the direction of the Central Government. This is the first meeting held by the two provinces after the Central Government agreed to reduce the number of provincial-level administrative units from 63 to 34. The administrative center of the province after the merger is located in Quang Ngai.
Ms. Bui Thi Quynh Van - Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Duong Van Trang - Secretary of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee chaired the conference.
At the conference, Ms. Bui Thi Quynh Van said that when there was a policy to merge Kon Tum province with Quang Ngai province, the public among cadres, party members and people of Quang Ngai province was very excited. The Standing Committee of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee will fully absorb the comments of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee Secretary and the leaders of Kon Tum province at the working session to soon complete the Project, ensuring the requirements for quality and progress in accordance with the Central Government's regulations.
At the meeting, the two provinces basically agreed on the first draft of the Project to merge Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces; agreed on a plan to coordinate the implementation of tasks related to the merger of the two provinces. At the same time, agree on the schedule and meeting location to resolve the work between the two Provincial Party Standing Committees from now until September 1, 2025, with a frequency of 3 weeks/time and can hold an emergency meeting when needed.
Currently, Kon Tum province has more than 1,800 cadres and civil servants in the provincial-level political system. There are 92 headquarters with a total area of over 1.8 million m2. After reorganizing the apparatus, transferring cadres to communes, resolving the regime and streamlining, Kon Tum will have about 1,500 cadres and civil servants transferred to Quang Ngai province to continue working.
Mr. Duong Van Trang suggested that after the merger and the new apparatus, Quang Ngai province needs to study to put the apparatus into operation as quickly and effectively as possible after September 1, 2025. At the same time, he proposed that Quang Ngai province study the placement of a Permanent Department in Kon Tum City to serve cadres and leaders working in the border area. It is necessary to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for accommodation and travel for Kon Tum provincial cadres when moving to Quang Ngai city to work, so that they can work with peace of mind.
Complete the project to merge Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces before May 1, 2025
Ms. Bui Thi Quynh Van said that, implementing the Central's direction on merging provincial-level administrative units, Quang Ngai province has proactively prepared the contents and draft of the Project and plan to merge the two provinces. According to the Central Government's roadmap, before May 1, 2025, the Project to merge and consolidate Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces must be completed to report to the Central Government for submission to competent authorities for approval.
Currently, Quang Ngai province has drafted a merger project from the perspective of a government agency and basically completed the plan to arrange public housing and means of transport to serve the cadres and civil servants of Kon Tum province after the merger. The province has also proactively reviewed and repaired offices and public housing to arrange accommodation for officials and civil servants in Kon Tum province in need.
Quang Ngai province agreed to assign the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to coordinate with Kon Tum province and relevant agencies to complete the Project, submit to the Standing Committees of the two provinces for discussion and consensus. After completing the Project, tasks related to organizational structure, staffing and arising issues will continue to be carried out.
