Lam Dong has the largest area in the country, administrative center in Da Lat
Lam Dong - The project to arrange and organize a new administrative unit of Lam Dong province with the largest natural area in the country, the administrative center is located in Da Lat city.
On April 15, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed a Decision (No. 759/QD-TTg dated April 14, 2025) approving the Project to reorganize administrative units at all levels and build a model of organizing local government at 2 levels (Project).
Decision No. 759 provides a specific arrangement plan for provincial-level administrative units. In which, Dak Nong province, Binh Thuan province and Lam Dong province will be merged into a new province called Lam Dong province.
Accordingly, the new province will have the largest natural area in the country with 24,233km2 and a population of 3,324,400 people.
The administrative and political center of Lam Dong province is located in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province.
Previously, at the 11th Central Conference of the 13th tenure on April 12, the Central Executive Committee highly agreed on the policies on organizing local government at 2 levels including the provincial level (province, centrally run city) and the commune level (commune, ward, special zone under province, city).
The Central Government also agreed that the number of provincial-level administrative units after the merger will be 34 provinces and cities (28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities) with the name and administrative-political center determined according to the principles stated in the Submissions and Projects.
According to Resolution No. 60 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, Lam Dong will merge with Dak Nong province and Binh Thuan province, expected to take the name of Lam Dong province, the political - administrative center located in Lam Dong province.
Also related to this, on April 14, Mr. Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee signed a document to the departments, branches and sectors on the development of the Project on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units.
The Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee assigned the provincial departments, branches and sectors to preside over and proactively coordinate with the departments, branches and sectors of Binh Thuan and Dak Nong provinces to organize the development of a project to merge each department, branch and sector of the three provinces.
In particular, ensuring progress according to plan; completing the project and sending it to Lam Dong Department of Home Affairs for appraisal and synthesis before April 22.
