Tourists get to ride electric cars for free in Cat Ba, Hai Phong
Hai Phong - Tourists visiting Cat Ba Island will be able to take a free electric car.
From April 18, Sun Group put into trial operation a modern public transport system to welcome tourists from Phu Long cable car station to Xanh Island Central Bay on Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong. The electric vehicle and electric buggy system not only solves the problem of transportation on the island but also gradually establishes and strengthens the image of the green, ecological and carbon-emission Pearl Island.
Accordingly, electric vehicles will pick up tourists from Phu Long cable car station to Xanh Island Central Gulf. The electric vehicle schedule operates from early morning to late evening, synchronized with the Sun World Cat Ba cable car schedule and events on the island, helping visitors easily arrange travel schedules, experiences, and entertainment.
During the free trial period from April 18 to May 15, 10 electric cars running the Phu Long - Xanh Island Central Coast cable car route will operate continuously to serve and pick up and drop off tourists. From May 16, the system will be expanded to 20 vehicles of each type, with a frequency of 150 trips/day, meeting the demand during the peak season. The cable car ticket price is still being discounted to only 50,000 VND/trip for one-way travel, applicable until December 31, 2025.

In May, the new electric buggy is also expected to be put into operation by the unit to bring tourists from Cat Ba cruise port (Dong Ho Bay) to the central Gulf of Xanh Island, or move flexibly to the beaches and tourist attractions in the Xanh Island area.
Also from April 18, two new high-speed trains will add more waterway vehicles, adding options for passengers, helping to shorten travel time. Cat Hai - Cat Ba route (25 minutes), takes passengers from Cat Hai yacht (next to Dong Bai ferry terminal) to Cat Ba yacht (Dong Ho Bay). The Ha Long - Cat Ba route (50 minutes) will operate from May 17, departing from Ha Long International Passenger Port to Cat Ba cruise port (Dong Ho Bay).
In 2025, Cat Ba sets a target of attracting 4 million visitors. In the first two months of 2025, Cat Ba Island welcomed more than 280,000 visitors. However, the transport infrastructure here has not kept up with the growth rate. At the "bottleneck" of Dong Bai ferry terminal, there is often a long traffic jam. At times, the number of passengers waiting in line for the ferry is up to several kilometers long, causing inconvenience to tourists as well as local people. On the island, the number of private vehicles and passenger cars has increased dramatically while the traffic of public transport is not enough to meet the demand.
The application of a carbon emission public transport system to serve tourists is expected to gradually remove traffic bottlenecks, protect the environment, raise environmental protection awareness for people, and gradually position Cat Ba - the first green, ecological, and carbon emission island in Vietnam.
