Worker Tuong Van Dinh and the journey to bring digital application initiatives into production
From improvements in the LED production line, worker Tuong Van Dinh contributed to helping Rang Dong Company improve productivity, save costs and promote digital transformation.
Initiatives stemming from production practice
Mr. Tuong Van Dinh - Head of Export Assembly Team 1, LED Industry 2, Rang Dong Lamp and Thermos Joint Stock Company (abbreviated as Rang Dong Company) - is one of the typical examples of the spirit of innovation of workers in the process of enterprises transitioning from traditional production to high-tech enterprises.
Attached to Rang Dong for 23 years, Mr. Tuong Van Dinh witnessed a strong change in the business when gradually applying science and technology, automation and digital transformation to production. From 2020, Rang Dong Company began to implement the digital transformation program, gradually bringing digital technology into production, business and management. From his direct position working on the production line, he realized that innovation is not something far from reality but starts from the problems arising in each daily production stage.
According to Mr. Dinh, when businesses switch to modern production models, workers also have to change their working mindset. "We not only stop at following the correct technological process but also have to think about how to make work better, faster and create more value. In other words, workers need to shift from a way of doing things based heavily on experience to a more creative way of doing things, knowing how to use data, technology and always searching for innovation" - Mr. Dinh shared.

From that thought, he and his colleagues actively participated in technical improvement activities, applying technology to improve productivity and product quality. As Head of Export Assembly Team 1, Mr. Dinh not only directly researched solutions but also organized the implementation and guidance of workers in the team to access new production methods.
One of his typical initiatives is the application of visual cameras and VGR robots in the glue coating and welding stage of the MXL2174-35W/5000K LED lights. Before improvement, this stage was mainly done manually, with a yield of only about 2,500 products per shift. Unstable glue coating also causes errors, affects quality and requires additional product cleaning personnel.
After analyzing the process, Mr. Dinh proposed to coordinate with the technical department to bring the visual camera system into control of this stage. This solution helps to accurately control the amount of glue, limit errors, and at the same time increase productivity to about 3,500 products per shift, an increase of 40% compared to before and reduce 2 direct workers at the stage, saving 400 million VND/year.
Not only this initiative, Mr. Dinh also participated in many other improvement programs in the LED industry 2. Solutions related to the GDXL 1074 LED lighting set help increase productivity by 56%, reduce 3 workers, and save about 270 million VND per year. LED lighting products for shelves and supermarket freezers exported to the UK, USA, and Canada help increase productivity by 67%, saving about 780 million VND per year.
The total value benefited from improvement initiatives implemented by him and the Kaizen industry group is about 2 billion VND per year.

Spreading the spirit of innovation in the labor force
Not only is he the person who directly creates initiatives, Mr. Tuong Van Dinh is also a factor promoting the spirit of learning and mastering technology in the workforce. He and the production team organize training and guidance for new workers, helping workers quickly adapt to modern production requirements.
During the year, his team additionally trained 1 quality deputy team leader, 2 team leaders and 66 new workers, contributing to maintaining stable productivity and production quality.
According to Mr. Dinh, digital transformation in enterprises is not only about bringing more modern machinery and equipment into factories, but more importantly, changing from the people themselves. When workers understand technology, know how to exploit data and proactively improve, they will become an important force in the enterprise development process.
Reality at Rang Dong Company shows that smart production systems such as MES, ERP, CRM, IoT, AI, SCADA are gradually supporting workers to control processes and improve operational efficiency. Technology helps reduce repetitive operations, while creating conditions for workers to focus more on management, analysis and production improvement.
Technology does not lose the role of workers but becomes a tool to help us work better," Mr. Dinh acknowledged.

With his contributions in production labor, Mr. Tuong Van Dinh has been recognized and rewarded for many years by the Company's Trade Union and Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company as an excellent trade union member, specially good worker at the company level and an individual with many typical initiatives.
Mr. Dinh's story shows that in the smart factory era, workers are not only operators of equipment but are also becoming creative subjects, directly contributing to bringing science and technology into production life. When given learning opportunities and encouraged to innovate, each worker can create new values for businesses and the economy.
