New approach to protecting workers' health at work
Ho Chi Minh City trade union officials are equipped with knowledge to protect the health and safety of workers, including the application of ergonomics principles.
On August 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation coordinated to organize training on labor safety, how to identify harmful factors and control risks at the workplace for more than 200 trade union officials in the area.
A noteworthy content is knowledge about ergonomics - a field that considers the suitability between workers and means, equipment and working environment.
According to the training content, the application of ergonomic principles can be implemented from specific adjustments at the workplace, such as choosing or adjusting equipment suitable to the worker's stature; improving lighting conditions, colors, sound and workplace layout.
This approach aims to create stable mental and physical conditions for workers, helping workers operate appropriately and improve productivity in the working process.
In addition, trade union officials are guided on the 5-step process of proactively assessing harmful factors at the grassroots level.
First of all, it is necessary to identify the source of occurrence; then identify people likely to be exposed; assess the level and duration of exposure; compare with permissible standards; and finally determine the priority level of control.
In this process, identifying and intervening right at the source of occurrence is emphasized to control the risk early.
Control solutions are approached sequentially, from elimination, replacement, technical control to building standard working processes. These contents are oriented to be applied at factories and enterprises.
On August 25 and August 26, the conference also focused on improving the capacity of trade union officials in monitoring workers' health, preventing occupational diseases and participating in improving the working environment.
Through this, the role of the trade union is not only limited to receiving feedback when workers encounter safety and health problems, but also towards proactively identifying risks and promoting preventive measures right at the workplace.
