Workers seek union support

Many workers in the informal sector (free work) expressed their dream of having a solid support amidst the difficult pace of life. They hope to have their rights protected, have a place to share professional experiences and receive guidance when facing risks at work.

Ms. Pham Thi Lan, a lottery ticket seller in Long Chau ward, said that every day traveling all over the streets to make a living, makes her always worried when it rains or when she is suddenly sick, the work is really hard.

According to Ms. Lan, when she saw many colleagues in the same profession being guided, sharing experiences and supporting each other in difficult times, she began to crave a support. Ms. Lan hopes to join the union to feel more secure in her daily work.

" Joining the union will help me connect with other lottery ticket sellers, learn from travel experience, manage tickets and know how to deal with professional risks. This will create more peace of mind and stability in making a living," Ms. Lan added.

Mr. Le Van Hoang in Long Chau ward said that technology drivers in the freelance work group often face many risks. When he was traveling on the road or encountering minor incidents, he had no one to guide or support him in a timely manner.

According to Mr. Hoang, if he joins the union, he will receive legal support, information about benefits and insurance policies, helping his work become safer and more effective every day.

Mr. Hoang added that joining the union also helps him have a place to exchange experiences and share difficulties with his colleagues. This will create a solid spiritual and material support for freelancers like him.

Proactively keeping close to the area

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial Federation of Labor - emphasized: "We consider protecting the rights and welfare of workers in the informal sector as an official task. This is a vulnerable group, has little protection and really needs the support of the trade union".

In the past time, the Provincial Federation of Labor has directed all levels to closely follow each occupation group, from motorbike taxi drivers, lottery ticket vendors to lottery ticket vendors, to clearly understand the nature of work and actual needs.

Do not wait for workers to come but proactively go deep into each alley of life, to understand their specific thoughts, aspirations and difficulties. The establishment of grassroots trade unions must be based on voluntariness and bring practical benefits.

Small union models have been effective, helping freelance workers see clear benefits both materially and spiritually. Vinh Long Labor Union combines developing union members with social security care, such as giving gifts, supporting health insurance and visiting when sick.

These activities not only help stabilize the lives of workers but also create cohesion, enhance responsibility and community spirit.
