Luc Yen Trade Union innovates operations, cares for more than 1,500 union members

After 15 years of implementing Resolution 06a/NQ-TLĐ of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on "Continuing to innovate the content, methods and improve the quality of grassroots trade union activities", Luc Yen Commune Trade Union (Lao Cai province) has had many creative ways of doing things, gradually affirming its role as a support for workers in the locality.

From 2011 to now, trade union activities in Luc Yen have recorded many clear changes. In the context of arranging the organizational structure of the two-level local government, the organizational scale and force of union members have changed a lot, but the Commune Trade Union has proactively consolidated the apparatus and focused resources to maintain effective operation.

Currently, Luc Yen Commune Trade Union manages 20 grassroots trade unions, of which 19 units belong to the non-state enterprise sector with more than 1,500 union members.

Most union members work at mineral exploitation, gemstone processing and construction material production enterprises - specific local industries.

Closely following production practices and the lives of workers has helped trade union organizations implement many practical activities, bringing the spirit of Resolution 06a into life.

A highlight in innovating the operating methods of Luc Yen Commune Trade Union is promoting the application of information technology. The Executive Committee of the Commune Trade Union has built online information channels via Zalo, Facebook and union member management applications to promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of workers.

For workers working at stone mines and processing workshops regularly at the site, "fast response groups" on social networks have become effective exchange channels, helping trade union officials quickly receive feedback and deploy support activities.

Thanks to that, the gap between trade union officials and union members has been narrowed, contributing to improving the effectiveness of caring for and protecting the rights of workers.

In parallel with innovating operating methods, the work of representing and protecting union members' rights is also focused on. To date, about 85% of businesses in the area have signed collective labor agreements with many clauses that are more beneficial than the provisions of law.

Including contents on supporting meals from 18,000 - 25,000 VND/portion, gasoline allowance, telephone, personal insurance... contributing to improving working conditions and improving the lives of workers.

Welfare programs such as "Tet Sum vay" (Reunion Tet), support from the "Trade Union Home" Fund are also maintained regularly, helping many union members in difficult circumstances stabilize their lives and feel secure in sticking with businesses.
