Labor safety and hygiene become a corporate culture

Linh Nguyên (báo lao động) 08/12/2025 17:42 (GMT+7)

The fact that businesses increasingly value and build occupational safety and hygiene as a corporate culture shows the importance of this work. The basic thing is to promote so that each employee and employer clearly understands their rights, responsibilities and obligations when working.

Responsibilities and obligations need to be clearly understood

Discussing occupational safety and hygiene, Ms. Ninh Thi Loan - a worker at Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company (Urenco) said that due to the nature of heavy, toxic work, and the risk of occupational accidents during work, Urenco workers are fully aware: Ensuring occupational safety and hygiene is the responsibility and obligation of both employees, employers and the whole society.

At the launching ceremony of Workers' Month and March on Labor Safety and Hygiene in 2025 organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in coordination with the Central Steering Committee for Labor Safety and Hygiene and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ms. Loan represented nearly 5,000 Urenco workers in a speech in response.

At that time, Ms. Loan said: While talking about this topic here, I was moved and reminisced about the sad story because just 5 days ago, a colleague of ours, 53 years old, unfortunately had an accident on the main road to work at midnight and she had passed away, because a young man had drunk and had not a driver's license and hit her head.

Due to the nature of her work, Ms. Loan and her colleagues are always aware of the importance of ensuring occupational safety and hygiene, and the right to work in a safe and healthy environment.

Therefore, on behalf of workers, Ms. Loan commits and is determined to strictly comply with regulations and rules on occupational safety and hygiene - fire prevention and fighting. Responsible for using and maintaining equipped personal protective equipment and safety equipment at the workplace, contributing to minimizing occupational accidents and diseases.

Increase learning, creativity, apply improvement solutions in work to improve labor efficiency and product quality. Actively participate in activities organized by trade unions and enterprises such as training and coaching on occupational safety and hygiene, occupational safety and hygiene competitions for good workers or emulation movements for good workers and creative workers.

Solidarity and mutual support to successfully complete all assigned tasks, together spreading the spirit of "Vietnamese workers pioneering in entering a new era", building the image of a modern, dynamic and innovative worker.

Building a model of a culture of labor safety at the workplace

To ensure occupational safety and hygiene in production, businesses are very aware of having to comply with the regime and internal regulations on occupational safety in accordance with the law. At the end of November, hundreds of officers, union members, and workers from many units of Garment Corporation 10 were trained in fire prevention and fighting, search and rescue.

The activity is organized to improve fire prevention and fighting skills and the ability to handle emergency situations for cadres, union members, and workers throughout the system. Garment Corporation 10 will implement the second round of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Training Plan in 2025 in accordance with the provisions of the Fire Prevention and Fighting Law and Decree 105/2025/ND-CP.

Cadres, union members and workers are trained in both theory and practice, focusing on the following contents: Legal knowledge on fire prevention and fighting in enterprises; identification of fire risk, prevention and handling measures; escape skills, first aid instructions for victims; operation of the use of basic fire fighting equipment; emergency response such as large fires, chemical leaks, gasoline incidents...; organization of fire fighting, rescue of people, property; implementation of plans in production areas.

Through the program to improve fire prevention and fighting skills and emergency handling capabilities, May 10 continues to strengthen fire awareness throughout the system, improve self-defense for workers and increase proactiveness in handling incidents, contributing to building a safe and professional working environment.

When occupational safety and hygiene are ensured, businesses will also benefit. Because this is not only about strictly complying with labor laws but also ensuring resources, avoiding losses to businesses during the labor and production process.

At the Petroleum Exploitation and exploration Corporation (PVEP), to ensure occupational safety and hygiene, the system of policies, safety processes, incident response and risk management and control solutions that PVEP has developed and applied closely and systematically, 100% of officers, employees and workers are trained in occupational safety and hygiene and are fully equipped with occupational protection.

This is one of the important factors for PVEP to experience tens of millions of safe working hours without any serious incidents, contributing to the successful completion of production and business tasks and targets. Accordingly, employment, wages, income and welfare regimes for workers are guaranteed and improved every year.

Recently, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor approved the Trade Union Project to promote the building of a culture of labor safety at the workplace in the period of 2025 - 2030, aiming for 100% of provincial, municipal and industry trade unions to implement the construction of a culture of labor safety at the workplace.

Notably, in the period of 2025 - 2027, the goal of the Project is to have 100% of provincial and municipal labor federations; central industry unions; General Corporation Trade Unions under the General Confederation of Labor issue a plan to implement the Project and have a plan to mobilize at least 1 enterprise/year to build a model of labor safety culture at the workplace for replication (excluding the number of enterprises directly implemented by the General Confederation of Labor in localities and sectors).

100% of provincial and municipal Labor Federations, Central Industry Trade Unions, and Corporation Trade Unions under the General Confederation of Labor have implemented propaganda activities on building a culture of labor safety at the workplace to union members and workers. At least 70% of full-time union officials monitoring occupational safety and hygiene work are trained, fostered, and updated with knowledge and skills on occupational safety culture at the workplace. At least 50% of the occupational safety and hygiene team is proactively trained by the union or coordinated with employers to train, foster knowledge and skills to build a culture of occupational safety at the workplace.
