General Secretary receives invitation from Mr. Trump to join the Gaza Strip Peace Council

News from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on January 16, 2026, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to General Secretary To Lam, inviting General Secretary To Lam and Vietnam to participate in the Gaza Strip Peace Council as a founding member state, along with the international community to promote sustainable peace solutions for the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

Responding to the invitation of US President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam emphasized Vietnam's consistent stance of supporting and always being ready to contribute to the common efforts of the international community towards resolving conflicts and disagreements by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, and respecting the basic rights of relevant parties.

Vietnam believes that the establishment of the Peace Council is a necessary step to implement the Gaza Strip Peace Plan approved by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution No. 2803 dated November 17, 2025, in which it welcomes member states of the United Nations to join the Peace Council to promote peace, humanitarian aid, and rebuild the Gaza Strip.

In that spirit, General Secretary To Lam accepted the invitation to join the Peace Council and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to participate as a founding member of the Peace Council, together with the US and the international community, actively contributing towards a long-term, comprehensive solution to the Middle East peace process, including the establishment of the state of Palestine co-existing peacefully with the state of Israel.

In the letter, General Secretary To Lam also suggested that Vietnam and the US continue to cooperate to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to develop more and more substantially and effectively, enhancing cooperation in many fields in accordance with the needs and priorities of both sides, on the basis of mutual respect, ensuring the legitimate interests of each country, actively contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world.
