General Secretary: Improving people's health is a pillar of sustainable development

Caring for the health of the elderly is not only a medical problem

Towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, on January 17, the consortium of investors including Hanoi Medical University Hospital (authorized by Hanoi Medical University) - Hanoi Housing Investment and Development Corporation (HANDICO) - NGS Equipment and Communications Joint Stock Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hanoi Medical University Center - Elderly Health Care Complex Project at Hoang Mai University of Medicine Hospital (Hoang Mai Ward, Hanoi City).

General Secretary To Lam attended and gave a speech at the ceremony. Also attending were Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that this is an important event, not only for the capital Hanoi, but also for the strategy of protecting, caring for and improving the health of the people, especially the elderly, in the context of our country entering a period of rapid population aging.

The General Secretary stated that our Party always shares the viewpoint: People are both the goal and the driving force for development. In particular, taking care of people's health is a central, continuous political task.

For the elderly, health care is not only a medical issue, but also a profound humanitarian issue, demonstrating the responsibility of the Party, the State, society and each family towards those who have devoted their lives to the country, the community and their own families.

In the context of increasing average life expectancy, the family and social model has many changes, if there is no new approach, the health system and social security will face great pressure.

Therefore, our Party and State have issued many important policies and resolutions to proactively adapt to population aging, strengthen protection, care and improve people's health, considering this a pillar of sustainable development.

Taking the quality of health care and the benefits of the elderly as the center

The General Secretary said that this project is consistent with and directly concretizes many major policies of the Party and State on science and technology development, private economic development, enhancing protection, care and improving people's health; at the same time, it shows the determination of the Capital in applying specific mechanisms and policies to implement large, important projects with long-term spillover effects.

The General Secretary acknowledged and highly appreciated the close coordination between the State - schools - scientists - businesses in this project as very valuable, in line with the Party's policy on promoting all social resources for development, in which the private economy is the most important driving force of the economy.

To successfully implement the project, the General Secretary suggested that Hanoi City continue to pay close attention to leadership and direction; closely coordinate with the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies; create favorable conditions in accordance with the provisions of law; at the same time, strengthen supervision, ensure that the project is implemented on schedule, on schedule, on target, ensuring quality and efficiency.

Hanoi Medical University and medical facilities participating in the project need to promote their professional role, maintain medical ethics, take the quality of health care and the benefits of the elderly as the center; at the same time, build this into a prestigious center for geriatric training and research, gradually approaching regional and international standards...

Enterprises and investors need to fulfill their commitments; attach importance to social responsibility; invest methodically and long-term; harmonize economic efficiency with the goal of social security and humanity, not chasing short-term benefits.

The General Secretary believes that with the determination and consensus of all levels, sectors, scientists and businesses, the Medical - Health Care Complex Project - Hanoi Medical University will be successfully implemented, becoming a symbol of academic health, humanitarian health and modern health care in the new era.
