Vietnam - Australia trade aims at 20 billion USD, double investment after 2-3 years

On the afternoon of September 10, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man warmly welcomed the entire right to visit Vietnam; emphasizing that the visit is an important milestone, adding momentum to further develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and become more and more substantial.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that the two countries continue to enhance political trust through expanding delegation exchanges, high-level and all-level contacts, especially delegations between the two countries' National Assemblies, and effectively maintaining the content of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the two-way trade between the two countries to maintain positive growth momentum, reaching 14 billion USD in 2024, believing that the two sides will soon realize the goal of bringing trade turnover to 20 billion USD and doubling two-way investment within the next 2-3 years.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that Australia facilitate and continue to accompany Vietnam in the new development period, expand cooperation in priority and important areas such as green economy, digital economy, science and technology, innovation, renewable energy; continue to increase aid budgets, expand Government scholarship programs for students, support training, and improve the capacity of Vietnamese cadres and civil servants.

The National Assembly Chairman also suggested that the two countries increase people-to-people exchanges, expand cooperation in tourism, labor, education and training, and culture, including expanding the issuance of study, tourism, and labor visas to Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in Australia, contributing to the development of Australia and being a bridge for bilateral relations.

Expressing agreement and appreciation for the sharing of the National Assembly Chairman, the Governor affirmed that Australia is always a trusted partner of Vietnam; upgrading the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reflects political trust between the two countries, emphasizing Australia's commitment to continue cooperation to make bilateral relations, including the relationship between the two legislative bodies, more substantial and stronger.

The Australian Government highly appreciates the contributions of the Vietnamese community to the socio-economic development of Australia in particular and the Australia-Vietnam relationship in general; emphasized that Australia continues to pay attention to supporting Vietnam in training and developing human resources, continuing to provide ODA and provide financial and technical support to help Vietnam achieve growth targets.

The Australian Government welcomed and highly appreciated the effective cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and training, expressing its joy that Australia has provided more than 70 scholarship programs to Vietnam.

The Australian government agreed to further promote trade and investment cooperation, cooperation on gender equality, especially cooperation in women's empowerment as well as cooperation on climate change in the Mekong Delta region.
