Reclaiming more than 2.8 hectares of land in Phu Quoc for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Project

On January 15, the An Giang Provincial People's Council held the 8th session (special session) to approve 3 important draft resolutions. Including the Resolution on approving the list of works and projects requiring land acquisition in 2026 in An Giang province.

For the Duong Dong area wastewater treatment plant project. Regarding location, scale, and area of land acquisition, it is located in Cay Thong Ngoai Cua Duong Quarter, Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province; the scale of land use of the project is 2.805 hectares and the area of land acquisition is 2.805 hectares of other land.

According to the People's Committee of An Giang province, the reason for the adjustment is that according to the general planning of Phu Quoc, 4 locations have been identified to implement the Wastewater Treatment Plant Project. However, the previously selected location (in Quarter 9, Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province with the project's land use scale of 9.60 hectares and the recovered land area of 4.60 hectares of other land) arose with large compensation and site clearance costs, encountering many difficulties in organizing implementation and affecting the project's progress.

Therefore, the adjustment of the Project to the new location mentioned above (in Cay Thong Quarter Oton Cua Duong, Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province with the project's land use scale of 2.805 hectares and the recovered land area of 2.805 hectares of other land) is still one of the 4 locations identified in the Phu Quoc general planning (the project implementation location has been approved by the Phu Quoc Economic Zone Management Board for the 1/2000 zoning plan according to Decision No. 02/QD-BQLKKTPQ dated January 5, 2026).

This location has a smaller area, lower compensation and site clearance costs but still meets the project's processing capacity requirements (according to the proposal of Phu Quoc Economic Zone Management Board in Report No. 181/BC-BQLKKTPQ dated December 9, 2025 and Report No. 200/BC-BQLKKTPQ dated December 17, 2025).
