Approving the An Thoi port exploitation project in Phu Quoc Special Zone

On December 30, at the 7th session of the An Giang Provincial People's Council, 25 draft resolutions on important issues were approved, including a resolution on approving the An Thoi Port Exploitation Project.

According to the resolution, the goal of the An Thoi Port Exploitation Project is to promote investment efficiency, gradually completing the synchronous infrastructure to contribute to socio-economic development.

Method of leasing assets for exploitation of An Thoi port infrastructure. The list of assets for lease with exploitation rights includes all 17 items of maritime infrastructure assets.

The implementation form is the auction for the lease of the right to exploit the infrastructure assets of An Thoi port. The term of the exploitation rights lease is 24 months from the date of signing the contract.

According to the People's Committee of An Giang province, in terms of natural conditions, the An Thoi sea area is very favorable for receiving large ships with 3,000DWT; the larger the sea transportation, the lower the product cost, contributing to reducing the cost of goods from the mainland and Phu Quoc island closer together, reducing costs for investors, and quickly promoting the development of Phu Quoc.

On the other hand, the Nam An Thoi area has many vehicles, inland waterway vehicles without ports to transport and pick up tourists around the islands, and recreational services at sea, in the area with only An Thoi port, which ensure the conditions and needs for people to anchor and operate boats safely.

An Thoi Port area is planned as a general port and has been specified by the An Giang Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 658 on approving local adjustments to the General Planning of Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province until 2040.

In addition, in 2027, Vietnam will host the APEC Conference, in which Phu Quoc is identified as the venue for organizing a number of important activities, requiring urgent infrastructure, serving transportation, welcoming international visitors and ensuring technical infrastructure - services according to standards. This requires An Thoi Port to be managed, exploited and operated synchronously, modernly, safely and effectively.

However, up to now, the exploitation and use of the port still has many shortcomings. Specifically, such as unsynchronized mining activities, failure to promote existing infrastructure capacity, unreasonable mining mechanisms, leading to low business efficiency and losses for investors. Lack of resources, maintenance and repair work has not been focused on, many infrastructure items and port equipment have degraded, affecting safety and exploitation capacity. Port management is not reasonable, leading to congestion and chaos, causing insecurity and insecurity; not meeting the standards for tourism - international event service...

From the above facilities, the project "Exploiting An Thoi Port" was established to promote investment efficiency, ensure security and order, and develop tourism, cargo and passenger transport.

According to the People's Committee of An Giang province, approving the An Thoi Port Exploitation Project towards leasing port exploitation rights is very urgent, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, especially the marine economy and local tourism. Thereby gradually completing the synchronous infrastructure to serve the 2027 APEC high-level week in Phu Quoc.
