Rivers in Cao Bang are bare, people wade in the stream to catch fish
Cao Bang - Entering the dry season, the water level on the rivers flowing through the city is very low.
According to the actual records of the reporter, in early April 2025, people in Cao Bang city were worried when they saw the Bang Giang river flowing through the center of Cao Bang city increasingly low, the riverbed had only a small amount of water left.
In some places, people can even walk from one bank to the other without having to cross the bridge. On the river, there are quite a few people wading through the water to catch small fish and seafood.
The situation of river banks has left many consequences. First of all, it affects the daily lives of people, especially in areas directly dependent on surface water sources such as suburban communes and highlands.

According to the water source forecast announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in early 2025, the Bang Giang river basin is assessed to be in a "normal" state during the dry season.
However, the reality in Cao Bang city and neighboring areas is showing increasingly clear signs of local water shortage.
In that context, response solutions need to be deployed urgently. In addition to increasing forecasting, early warning and regulating water resource exploitation, local authorities need to consider investing in upgrading irrigation systems, looking for more effective water storage solutions for the dry season.

In Cao Bang city, the locality is currently building a dam system to improve the landscape and water surface quality of the Bang Giang river.
Accordingly, when completed, the project will increase and keep water stable for the Bang River, creating a landscape of the city center and facilitating the exploitation of surface water for production and daily life in the riverside area.
When the dam is completed, it will create an open, spacious water surface space to regulate the climate, improve the ecological environment, develop services, and tourism on the river and on both sides of the river.
Reduce the increase and decrease the river water level, increase the stability of river banks, reduce flow rate, and minimize landslides.

The project will regulate water levels in the dry season by using flat valve gates and returning flood drainage aperture almost to the natural river, ensuring flood drainage capacity. Operated by a hydraulic equipment system to lift and lower the valve door, the total width of the compartment with the valve door is expected to be about 60m. This project will be completed on April 30, 2025.
In addition, raising public awareness of water resource protection and water use economically and reasonably also plays a very important role.

Another river flowing through Cao Bang city, the Hien River, is in a similar situation. The low water level of the Hien River has caused somehow affected the surface water supply for domestic water in the city.
Mr. Nguyen Van Viet (Tan Giang ward, Cao Bang city) - shared: "Every year during the dry season, the water on the rivers dries up, but this year it dries up too quickly, seeing the river water level makes people worried about the upcoming summer days because if there is little rain, there is a risk of a shortage of domestic water at the end of the water source".
