The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs recommends that District 1 consider the option of naming Saigon Ward
HCMC - The Department of Home Affairs proposed that the People's Committee of District 1 consider the option of establishing a new administrative unit named Saigon.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs has just sent a document to the Thu Duc City People's Committee, the People's Committees of 16 districts and the People's Committees of 5 districts to deploy the development of a project to reorganize administrative units of wards and communes.
As of April 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs has received and compiled a plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units from Thu Duc City, 16 districts and 5 counties.
It is expected that from the 273 existing administrative units, Ho Chi Minh City will arrange more than 100 new units.
Regarding the naming of new commune-level administrative units after the arrangement, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs said that there are currently some cases of matching names that need to be considered and adjusted.
Phu Dinh ward is coexisting in District 6 and District 8; Tan Phu ward has the same name in District 7 and Tan Phu District. At the same time, Phu My Ward of District 7 also matches the name of the new commune-level administrative unit that is expected to be established in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
In addition, the Department of Home Affairs proposed that the People's Committee of District 1 consider the plan to establish a new administrative unit named "Saigon", and the People's Committee of District 5 consider naming a new unit as " Cho Lon".
In Tan Binh District and Cu Chi District, local authorities are encouraged to choose new names associated with historical, traditional and cultural factors typical of the area; prioritize the reuse of the names of existing communes and towns before the arrangement.
For proposals to use historical figure names such as Vo Thi Sau ward, Le Van Si ward (District 3) and Nguyen Tri Phuong ward (District 10), the Department of Home Affairs recommends that localities carefully consider, consider carefully and collect public opinions before making an official decision, to ensure consensus and phuision in administrative naming.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs, the naming of new commune-level administrative units after the reorganization must ensure the following criteria: easy to read, easy to remember, concise, systematic, scientific, and consistent with local historical, traditional, and cultural factors. At the same time, the name needs to receive the consensus of local people.
The name of the new commune-level administrative unit must not overlap with the current name of any administrative unit at the same level within the province or centrally run city, including localities in the process of formation according to the approved planning orientation.
Encourage the reuse of old names of administrative units before the arrangement, or choose names with historical, cultural, and traditional values, loved and supported by local people.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs, the adjustment of the boundary of commune-level administrative units to complete the arrangement and establishment of new units can be implemented for localities that really have an urgent need to adjust and expand the boundary to comply with planning and development orientation in the future.
Relevant units need to proactively coordinate, discuss and agree in writing, and at the same time send recommendations and reports to the Department of Home Affairs and the City Party Committee's Organization Committee for synthesis and submission to the City Party Committee's Standing Committee for consideration and decision.
It is expected that tomorrow afternoon (September 15), the 39th Conference of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Executive Committee will be held to discuss the project to reorganize administrative units at all levels and build a model of organizing local government at 2 levels.
