Gia Lai - Throughout the 2026 New Year's holiday, the military and police forces still stick to the flooded areas, building shelters for people day and night.

Determined to help people have a house before Tet

After 2 historic storms and floods in November 2025, Gia Lai province recorded more than 51,800 houses flooded, 28,196 houses collapsed, washed away or severely damaged.

Faced with great damage to houses, the Prime Minister launched the "Quang Trung Campaign" with the goal of quickly building and repairing houses for people affected by storms and floods, and soon rebuilding shelters before the Lunar New Year 2026.

Immediately after the Prime Minister's direction, Gia Lai province mobilized the entire political system to repair and rebuild houses. After 1 month of implementation, the whole province has completed the repair of 27,522 severely damaged houses (100%). For 674 collapsed and drifted houses that need to be rebuilt, the progress is about 70%, expected to be completed before January 15, 2026.

With this result, Gia Lai province has closely followed each direction and assigned direct responsibility to the head. The province assigned leaders of the Provincial People's Committee to take charge of each locality, requiring the Secretary and Chairman of the commune level to go down to the village, closely follow each household, and promptly remove difficulties from the grassroots.

To promptly support, Gia Lai has issued specific policies: households with collapsed or washed away houses are completely supported with 60 million VND/house; households with serious damage are supported with 2-5 million VND/house; poor, near-poor households and families in need of repair are supported with 20 million VND/house.

In parallel with the construction of houses, the province has arranged temporary accommodation, ensured social security, and provided necessities for people while waiting for the completion of new houses. To date, the province has spent more than 720 billion VND to support people to build, repair houses and build resettlement areas. The policy is implemented publicly, transparently, and to the right subjects, helping people soon stabilize their lives.

Working non-stop to help people soon have a place to live

During the 1 month of the campaign, the military and police forces played a pivotal role, especially in areas with heavy damage, remote areas, and areas where construction encountered many difficulties.

More than 2,000 military and police officers and soldiers of the province have directly participated in repairing, constructing, and working without days off, determined to rebuild shelters for people before the Lunar New Year 2026.

Colonel Nguyen Xuan Son - Deputy Political Commissar of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command - said that out of 674 houses that need to be rebuilt, the military force directly handles 106 houses, currently reaching about 40% of the volume. Although the goal is to complete before January 31, 2026, more than 700 troops are striving to finish earlier, before January 15, 2026.

"Even during the 4-day New Year holiday, the force still works continuously, taking advantage of every hour to complete the task, helping people have a home," said Colonel Nguyen Xuan Son.

Regarding the police force, Colonel Ngo Cu Vinh - Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Police - said that the entire force is supporting the construction of 107 apartments (87 apartments were assigned by the province and 20 apartments were funded by the Ministry of Public Security).

"We determined to complete and hand over the entire project before January 15, 2026. Therefore, nearly 700 officers and soldiers are working non-stop, working day and night, throughout the New Year to keep up with the set schedule," said Mr. Vinh.

In Tuy Phuoc commune, 2/16 houses have been completed and handed over to the people. Vice Chairman of Tuy Phuoc Commune People's Committee Thai Van Thuan said that with the support of the military and police forces, commune organizations have regularly provided water and food to the construction force; youth and militia have contributed to helping people soon have new houses.

"The households whose houses have been handed over are all very excited to have new, safe places to live before Tet. The general goal is that all remaining apartments must be completed before January 15, 2026," said Mr. Thuan.
