On May 10, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the province has just issued a plan to implement the Adjustment of the General Plan for the construction of Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Zone to 2045, with the goal of making this area a dynamic economic region, a key trading, service and tourism center connecting Vietnam with China and the ASEAN region.

According to Decision No. 1533/QD-UBND, the plan aims to concretize the Project on Adjusting the General Plan for Construction of Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Zone to 2045, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1958/QD-TTg dated September 10, 2025.

The plan focuses on reviewing, updating and completing the zoning planning system and detailed planning; and at the same time determining the list and priority order of investment in technical infrastructure and social infrastructure projects associated with capital allocation for implementation in each phase.

The goal is to build Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Zone into a key dynamic economic region of the province, synchronously develop industry, urban areas, trade and services on the basis of modern technical infrastructure, sustainable development associated with the conservation of natural ecosystems, ensuring national defense - security and border sovereignty.

The province also orients strong development of border gate economy and border trade with the Chinese market; focusing on building the border gate area into a commercial, service and tourism center with high-altitude connectivity, creating development momentum for the entire midland and mountainous areas of the North.

According to the plan, every year functional agencies will organize the review, adjustment and supplementation of zoning plans and detailed plans; establish resettlement areas to serve site clearance for key projects.

At the same time, it proposed to cancel planning and management regulations that are no longer suitable or contradictory to the newly approved general plan.

Along with that, the province will implement projects according to the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030, mobilizing more socialized resources to develop technical infrastructure, logistics, trade and services in the Lao Cai border gate economic zone.
