Signing protocols on exporting chili, passion fruit, bird's nest... to China
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has signed protocols on the export of chili, passion fruit, bird's nest, and rice bran to China, along with a cooperation agreement on environmental protection and geology.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the above documents were signed within the framework of the official visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam, from April 14 to 15.
The signed Protocols include: Protocol on plant quarantine requirements for chili exported from Vietnam to China; Protocol on plant quarantine requirements for exported passion fruit from Vietnam to China; Protocol on safety requirements for quarantine of animals and plants for rice bran and broken rice bran as raw materials for export of animal feed from Vietnam to China; Protocol on quarantine, inspection and sanitation requirements for raw bird's nest and clean bird's nest products exported from Vietnam to China.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on environmental protection cooperation with the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The Department of Fisheries and Islands chairs a cooperation agreement on research and comprehensive environmental management of the Gulf of Tonkin archipelago. The Vietnam Geological Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the China Geological Administration on geology.
China is Vietnam's largest import market and Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN. Last year, Chinese consumers spent 4.6 billion USD to buy Vietnamese vegetables and fruits. In 11 months alone, durian ranked first with more than 2.84 billion USD, dragon fruit about 320 million USD, banana 220 million USD, jackfruit 240 million USD.
Currently, 14 types of Vietnamese agricultural products have been officially exported to the billion-people market, bringing in billions of USD in revenue each year. Of which, 6 items of the two sides have signed an export Protocol (derment, bamboo shoots, black jelly, durian, fresh bananas and sweet potatoes) and 6 traditional items have not been standardized by an export Protocol (drink, shrimp paste, mango, fabric, longan, jackfruit). In particular, passion fruit and chili are being piloted for export.
Up to now, the two sides have signed 24 memorandums of understanding and protocols on the import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In 2024 alone, 4 protocols were signed, including: Protocol on the export of frozen durian, crocodile, and monkey (on a visit to China, from August 18 to 20, 2024 by General Secretary and President To Lam) and the Protocol on the export of fresh coconut (signed on June 6, 2024 during a working visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development by the leader of the General Administration of Customs of China).
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam cooperates extensively with China in the fields of hydrometeorology, water resources, geology, minerals, seas and islands, environment, climate change, map measurement and remote sensing.
Recently, from March 22 to 25, 2025, the Minister of Water Resources of China led a working delegation to visit Vietnam and work with Minister Do Duc Duy. At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to closely coordinate to effectively manage and regulate the Mekong - Lan Thuong river water.
