Kon Tum aims to plant more than 1,500 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng
Kon Tum - People and businesses will newly grow 1,578 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng to serve market demand and develop the precious medicinal herb region.
On April 16, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Kon Tum province said that in 2025, the province aims to replant 1,578 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng - a precious medicinal plant considered a "guarantee" and an effective livelihood to help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.
Currently, the whole province has about 2,922 hectares of forest with Ngoc Linh ginseng. Of which, people cultivate about 333.63 hectares, mainly in Dak Glei district (75.11ha) and Tu Mo Rong (258.52ha). The remaining part, about 2,589ha, is invested by enterprises.
To achieve the new planting plan, local authorities and people have prepared seed sources, growing land and appropriate protection plans, ensuring seasonal sowing and high efficiency.
Currently, the enterprise's nursery gardens have about 2 million seedlings, along with the amount of seeds from nuts raised by the people themselves, enough to meet the new planting needs as planned.
In addition, the province is implementing a plan to invest in Ngoc Linh ginseng testing machines from the state budget, in order to inspect product quality at reasonable fees.
The province also considers free testing in investigations and handling of fake ginseng, contributing to protecting the brand of this medicinal herb.
According to the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district, Ngoc Linh ginseng has helped nearly 2,000 households escape poverty. Many families have improved their income by growing ginseng, buying cars and gradually getting rich.
