On the afternoon of February 26, on National Highway 279, the section passing through Bao Yen district was bustling with the sound of engines, horns of cars, motorbikes, trucks, containers... running in the direction of Ha Giang to the IC 16 intersection of Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway and vice versa.

The road surface of National Highway 279 through here is only over 7m wide, with many curves, while every day it has to receive a lot of traffic.

According to local people, this National Highway 279 runs through Ha Giang province, so the number of vehicles passing through every day is quite large.

In particular, at Km71, 73 and 74 in Yen Son commune, due to many dangerous turns, a series of serious accidents often occurred.

Living next to National Highway 279 and having also witnessed many tragic traffic accidents, Mr. Tien Van Do (ma 1 village, Yen Son commune, Bao Yen district) shared: "This road has had many accidents, causing many deaths. The road is often winding and has no lights, so driving here at night without being able to control the speed is very dangerous."

According to Mr. Tien Van Do, there were countless heavy to light collisions occurring at the curves on National Highway 279 through Yen Son commune. Therefore, people have set up a temple on the side of the road to worship those who are in trouble and cannot survive.

"We travel regularly on this road, so we hope the route will be repaired. This makes traveling more convenient and also ensures the lives of passersby, said Mr. Do.

According to other people, the State's policy of upgrading and renovating dangerous curves on National Highway 279 in Lao Cai is extremely correct. This should be done as soon as possible to limit the occurrence of more tragic accidents.

Faced with the above situation, information from the Ministry of Transport, based on the proposal of the Lao Cai Department of Transport, the Vietnam Road Administration has allowed the sudden repair of 11 damaged locations on National Highway 279 through Lao Cai province, implemented in the 2025 maintenance plan with a total cost of 21.2 billion VND.

"The Lao Cai Department of Transport is organizing the establishment of a project as a basis for implementing investment and repair of works in the 2025 maintenance plan. When the project is completed, it will ensure safety for people and vehicles participating in traffic," the Ministry of Transport added.
