Limit congestion at both ends of ferry terminals in Hai Phong during the April 30 holiday
Hai Phong - The Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry terminal management board (Hai Phong) is planning to reduce congestion during the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
100% of workers work overtime to serve passengers
On the morning of April 17, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Vu Manh Ha - Head of Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry terminal - said that in preparation for the April 30 - May 1 holiday, the unit has made a plan to limit congestion, passengers have to wait a long time when traveling to Cat Ba island and vice versa.
According to Mr. Ha, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the ferry terminal will operate 5 Bay View ferries of nearly 200 tons, running continuously to serve passengers. In addition, there will be a small 20-ton ferry mobilized in case of emergency. Based on the number of vehicles present at the ferry, the unit proactively takes time, arranges to run earlier than the regulated morning time or runs overtime, increasing trips at the end of the day. The station mobilizes 100% of its staff, working overtime until all passengers are served, in accordance with the direction of the Hai Phong City People's Committee.
"Since the beginning of April, the number of passengers traveling by ferry through Cat Ba has begun to increase sharply. At peak times, vehicles have to wait nearly an hour to cross the ferry. It is expected that during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the number of passengers will increase many times, so we will deploy synchronous measures, trying to make passengers only have to wait about 1-1.1 hours to get on the ferry (in favorable weather conditions)" - The ferry terminal manager said.
Speed up the progress of the ferry terminal expansion project
It is known that Cat Hai district is implementing the project to invest, build, renovate and expand Cai Vieng ferry terminal, Dong Bai ferry terminal and auxiliary works. Accordingly, the roads up and down to the ferry and asphalt concrete road will be expanded, the entire old wharf will be renovated and upgraded, the sewers will be dredged and drained to facilitate the ferry to dock; the waiting room will be renovated, and new toilets will be built to serve the needs of tourists.
The project started in January 2025 and is expected to be completed in September 2025. However, Cat Hai district is requiring contractors to speed up the progress, striving to complete the construction of the entire old Cai Vieng - Phu Long ferry terminal to put it into use before April 25, complete the approach road at Dong Bai ferry terminal before the April 30 holiday. The remaining items will be completed in May and June 2025.
In addition to traveling to Cat Ba via Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, visitors can choose to travel by cable car to save time, with a ticket price of 50,000 VND/person/trip. According to the People's Committee of Cat Hai district, Cat Ba Sun Company Limited added 30 electric vehicles to take customers on cable car, moving from cable car to the center of Cat Ba tourist area. From April 18 alone, 10 60-seat electric cars will run from Phu Long Cable Car Station to Cat Ba and vice versa. Thereby, enhancing the ability to transport passengers to Cat Ba Island during the 2025 tourist season, in the immediate future, the holiday of April 30 and May 1.
