Traffic congestion on Phap Van Expressway towards the center of Hanoi
Hanoi - Traffic jams occurred at the southern gateway when many people decided to return to the city early even though there was still one day left for the April 30 - May holiday.
On the afternoon of May 3, not the last day of the April 30 - May 1 holiday, many people returned to Hanoi early.
Recorded at the southern gateway, a line of cars stretched for many kilometers, causing congestion towards the city center. Local congestion has occurred at times due to the skyrocketing number of vehicles.
Due to concerns about the traffic jam on the last day of the holiday, Mr. Le Minh Son (39 years old, from Thanh Hoa) proactively returned to Hanoi before the end of the holiday.
However, the number of vehicles from the afternoon of March 3 has become crowded at the southern gateway of the capital, making it very difficult to move.
"I just thought of going early to avoid traffic jams, but I didn't expect that even though there was still one day off for the holiday, the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway was already very crowded, vehicles had to move a little bit to get around" - Mr. Son said and said it took about 30 minutes to get off the expressway to enter Ring Road 3.
Traffic police and other forces must increase traffic flow and guide vehicles to avoid congestion between the lanes going straight and turning onto the Ring Road 3 Expressway.
Recorded at more than 6:00 p.m., the number of vehicles on the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway tended to increase rapidly. It is forecasted that tonight, traffic at the southern gateway will continue to be crowded as people return to Hanoi after the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
Meanwhile, the number of people on National Highway 1, Ring Road 3, Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway, Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, Hanoi - Bac Giang... also tends to increase rapidly in the afternoon.
A representative of the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway operator said that according to the forecast, from March 3, people from the southern provinces will return to the capital after the holiday.
Today, the southern gateway expressway of Hanoi is expected to welcome about 120,000 vehicles/day and night. This figure is expected to increase sharply and peak on the afternoon of May 4.
