A series of provinces and cities allow students to have Saturday off
Many provinces and cities are currently piloting or planning to implement giving students a day off on Saturday to help them have more time to rest, self-study and reduce learning pressure. For example, Ninh Binh province will apply a trial from February 2 to February 28, 2025 with 69 secondary and high schools, while Phu Tho will implement it at 36 schools from the second semester. Some other localities such as Khanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Ha Tinh, Nghe An... have also implemented this model before.
The implementation of 5-day/week learning requires ensuring that the teaching program is not affected and receives the consent of teachers, parents, and students. This model aims to improve the quality of education, avoid overloading students and teachers, and at the same time create conditions for participation in social activities. Some provinces such as Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Ba Ria - Vung Tau are also planning to apply a similar form.

Good students in the city are not allowed to add points to the 10th grade exam
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training informed that students who win prizes in the city-level excellent student exam in grade 9 cultural subjects will not be given priority points when admission to grade 10 public high school in the 2025-2026 school year. According to Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT effective from February 14, 2025, only students who win provincial prizes in competitions held at the national level will receive incentive points.
The Ministry of Education and Training emphasizes that excellent student exams at the junior high school level organized by localities are not eligible for priority points. Circular 29 on extra teaching and learning takes effect with the regulation that only allow free extra teaching for three groups of students: weak, good and high school. However, at ethnic boarding schools in Dien Bien, this circular does not cause much disruption because students are used to the 2-session/day and self-study model.
