210,712 people in Can Tho City received Tet gifts from the Party and State

On the morning of December 31, 8 hamlets in Lieu Tu commune (Can Tho city) simultaneously organized giving gifts from the Party and State on the occasion of welcoming the 14th National Congress of the Party and the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo in 2026 to people with meritorious services to the revolution, social protection beneficiaries, social retirees and other vulnerable groups in the area. Each gift is worth 400,000 VND in cash.

As a locality with a large Khmer population, Lieu Tu commune arranged ethnic cadres to directly discuss and guide people to easily fully access the policies and meanings of the gift-giving ceremony.

Ms. Trieu Thi Soi, residing in Bung Triet hamlet (Lieu Tu commune, Can Tho city) could not hide her emotions when she received 400,000 VND in cash for the first time as a gift from the Party and the State. Mrs. Soi is 81 years old this year, her husband is 80 years old, her grandparents depend on each other, living with their married grandchild. The children all work far away, sometimes sending their parents a few hundred thousand to a million VND to cover expenses.

"I was very happy to receive my money for dinner today. With a total of 800,000 VND for the couple, it is enough to buy more necessities, reducing some of the difficulties in daily life," said Ms. Soi.

Sharing the same joy, Mr. Tra Sen (75 years old) also lives in Bung Triet hamlet - said that he currently lives with his children, helping to look after and take the two children to school every day. His children work at Tran De Fishing Port but their income is unstable, depending on the crop. Previously, his family had rice fields but had to sell them all to cover the long-term treatment costs for his wife at Cho Ray Hospital. Currently, Mr. Tra Sen is receiving a supplement for the elderly at the rate of VND500,000 per month.

"On time for National Day on September 2, I received a gift of 100,000 VND in cash. This Tet holiday, I received 400,000 VND, I am very happy. Thank you to the Party and State for caring for and helping the elderly," said Mr. Tra Sen.

According to the People's Committee of Lieu Tu commune (Can Tho city), during this period, the whole commune had 1,075 subjects receiving gifts. The organization of gift giving is carried out promptly, fully, in accordance with the direction of the Government and the People's Committee of Can Tho City; ensuring speed, correct subjects, no overlap; publicity, transparency, supervision by organizations and people, to be completed no later than December 31.

Also on the morning of December 31, Vinh Chau Ward People's Committee established 6 working groups to organize gift giving to beneficiaries in the area. In this period, the whole ward received 3,168 gifts, with a total cost of over 1.26 billion VND. The gift giving ceremony was implemented by the locality on December 31. For cases that have not yet received gifts on time, from January 5 to 9, 2026, people can contact the Department of Culture - Social Affairs of Vinh Chau Ward to receive them.

On December 30, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City signed a decision to supplement with targets from the city budget in 2025 to the commune and ward budgets to implement giving gifts from the Party and State on the occasion of the 14th National Congress of the Party and the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo in 2026 for people with meritorious services to the revolution, social protection beneficiaries, and social retirees. The total amount is more than 84.2 billion VND from the targeted additional central source in Decision No. 2814/QD-TTg dated December 28. 2025 of the Prime Minister.

The whole city has 210,712 beneficiaries, including 34,320 people with revolutionary contributions; 85,803 social protection beneficiaries and 90,589 social pensioners. Of which, Ninh Kieu ward has the highest number of beneficiaries with 4,484 people (nearly 1.8 billion VND); followed by Xa Phien commune with 3,450 people (1.38 billion VND), Phu Loi ward with 3,399 people (nearly 1.4 billion VND) and Vinh Thuan Dong commune with 3,300 people (more than 1.3 billion VND).
