Summary of the formation and development of the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union organization (part 3)
III. Workers' movement and Vietnam Trade Union in the years of national resistance (1946 -1954)

Before the new requirements and tasks of the revolution, on June 20, 1946, the National Salvation Trade Union Cadre Conference decided to change the name "Association of Salvation Workers" to "Trade Union" and establish the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor with Comrade Tran Danh Tuyen as General Secretary.
When the national resistance war broke out, trade unions at all levels mobilized workers to participate in combat, mobilized workers to move tens of thousands of tons of machinery, equipment, and raw materials to the base area to build production facilities, serving the long-term resistance war. By the end of 1947, the defense industry had built 57 new production facilities, mainly workshops for manufacturing and repairing weapons.
The issue of consolidating and developing Trade Unions is closely linked to the task of production and combat to stabilize the lives of workers. As of 1950, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour had 241,720 union members. Of which, the number of trade union members in the free zone was 194,000 people.
Under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnam Trade Union gathers and widely unites workers nationwide with the entire people to fight to build and protect the people's government, protect national independence, and protect the rights and interests of workers.
From January 1, 1950 to January 15, 1950, in the Viet Bac war zone, the 1st Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour met and set out new tasks for the working class and trade unions in the resistance war. The Congress elected Comrade Hoang Quoc Viet, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee as Chairman, and Comrade Tran Danh Tuyen was elected Secretary General of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
After the congress, the workers' movement and trade union activities in the free zone had many changes. The movement "Producing emulation, building emulation", "Technical improvement, promoting initiatives, professional development"... developed widely. Workers at factories and workshops have produced many weapons and equipment for combat. In parallel with promoting the production and combat emulation movement, the trade union especially values education and training to improve the cultural and professional level, class consciousness for workers, initially organizing the implementation of the regime of workers participating in production management, labor management, and implementing democratization in the production process.
In the enemy's war zone, the majority of workers and laborers still tried every way to participate in activities to support the resistance war. Trade union organizations in factories, plantations, and mines were maintained; they took advantage of applying all forms of organization and struggle to propagate and enlighten workers; promoted the movement to sabotage the enemy's economy; fought against the enemy's prolonged and expanded war plot; fought against the enemy's sabotage and movement of machinery, creating favorable conditions for the takeover of cities and towns after liberation.
Since 1951, the Vietnam Trade Union has promoted international activities to seek the great help and support of the working class and trade unions of brotherly countries and friends across five continents, contributing to the victory of our people's righteous resistance war.
