Study and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example of honesty, objectivity, and dedication of revolutionary journalists
For revolutionary journalists, identifying, studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideological, ethical and stylistic example is not a task in a period, but a regular, continuous process in the context of many challenges and intertwined opportunities as at present.
2025 is a special milestone, when the entire Party and people celebrate the 135th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday and the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. On this important occasion, we will learn about President Ho Chi Minh's views on the honesty, objectivity, and dedication of revolutionary journalists.
The person who laid the foundation for the Vietnamese revolutionary press
In 1911, the patriotic young man Nguyen Tat Thanh boarded the Amiral Latouche Treville ship to leave the country to find a way to save the country. On that journey, Man not only did many jobs to make a living but also had a chance to work as a journalist - a tool not only to make a living but also to fight for national independence.
On June 21, 1925, the newspaper "Youth Nien" (of the Vietnam Youth Revolutionary Comrades Association) issued its first issue, marking the birth of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. Since then, President Ho Chi Minh has always considered the press as an ideological - cultural front, the pen is a weapon, the article is a revolutionary satire. He advised: " Jury officers are also revolutionary soldiers".
In a letter to Huynh Thuc Khang newspaper writing class in 1949, he emphasized: "A newspaper that is not favored by the majority of the people is not worthy of being a newspaper". At the 2nd and 3rd Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association in 1959 and 1962, he repeatedly affirmed: "The mission of the press is to serve the people, serve the revolution", and at the same time required the press team to have strong political will, away from giao ly and formal diseases.
He requires journalists to clearly answer three questions before writing: What to write for? Who should I write for? How to write? The writer's advice must be "streamlined, clear, practical", fighting the disease of "long lines, Emptiness", fluent in elaborate words, and unnecessarily using foreign words. Writing a newspaper is not only about recording events but must have a clear point of view, honest and objective information, for the benefit of the revolution and the people.
Honest, objective, dedicated to the core qualities of revolutionary journalists
According to Ho Chi Minh's ideology, honesty in journalism is not simply about reflecting the truth, but also about not distorting, not exciting, not serving personal interests. Writing in newspapers is an action for the people, for the country - to tell the truth, write the truth, act the truth. Honesty is closely linked to professional ethics, a measure of the quality of journalists.
However, President Ho Chi Minh also pointed out: honesty and objectivity do not mean neutrality. Revolutionary journalists must stand above the stance of the Party and the people. Reporting must reflect the truth, not paint pink, not black, not avoid reality, and at the same time contribute to social orientation, raising people's awareness.
Dedicated to the profession "according to Uncle Ho" is to love the profession, overcome difficulties to fulfill the mission of a soldier on the ideological front. Writing a newspaper is a noble mission, requiring sacrifice and perseverance, for the benefit of the people and the country. Every journalist needs to maintain the "political, exorcistic" spirit that President Ho Chi Minh has always warned.
