Over 90% of employees join the union
Ms. Nguyen Huynh Tu Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Phuong Dong Food Processing Export Company Limited (Can Tho City) said that about 98% of the company's employees participate in the Trade Union organization, over 60% of whom are female.
According to Ms. Thanh, to achieve this result, in addition to mobilization and propaganda work, the company's Trade Union also has regular activities to care for female workers such as organizing gift giving on the occasion of March 8 and October 20, with a mid- shift room for workers.
In particular, when organizing periodic health check-ups for workers, female workers will be examined in obstetrics and gynecology.
" Obstetrics and gynecology examination is not mandatory, but the company always encourages workers to participate to ensure their health. Accordingly, if on the main examination day at the company, female workers are shy or busy and cannot participate, the company will create conditions to arrange a fixed day other than the examination room for workers to come and check," Ms. Thanh informed.
With over 2/3 of the workers being female, Ms. Nguyen Nhu Thuy, Chairman of the Trade Union of Dai Nam Food Processing Company Limited (Can Tho City) said that to attract any force to participate in the Trade Union organization, the dissemination and propaganda work has been carried out since the interview.
During the working process, in addition to the prescribed regimes, on holidays such as March 8, October 20, the company also organizes activities such as giving flowers, cakes, parties to encourage the spirit of female workers... Above all, the legitimate thoughts and aspirations of the women are listened to by the Trade Union and promptly proposed to the Company's Board of Directors.
More benefits
In the first 9 months of the year, the Trade Union of Can Tho Industrial and Export Processing Zones (IP&EC) has increased by 3,527/3,200 union members, reaching and exceeding the assigned target by 110.2%. Of which, the number of female union members increased by 2,192 people.
Ms. Le Thanh Thuy, Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Can Tho Industrial Parks and Export Processing Zones, informed that in recent times, some grassroots trade unions have operated well, bringing practical benefits, attracting workers to participate in the Trade Union organization. Therefore, the regional trade union has been promoting the guidance of grassroots trade unions to dialogue, negotiate, and sign collective labor agreements with employers with favorable terms so that union members and employees can increasingly enjoy many benefits.
The union of the zone also always pays attention to its own rights so that women can ensure their health and work with peace of mind, such as committing to ensure jobs for female workers to return to work after maternity leave, having a maternity check-up, and having a milk collection room for female workers raising young children at the enterprise, etc.
Speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of the Can Tho City Labor Federation said that the city is interested in developing union members and has identified them as one of the key tasks in 2024. Since the beginning of the year, the city's trade unions at all levels have developed 5,622 union members, established 5 unions, bringing the total number of current union members to 88,590 unions and 1,204 grassroots unions.
To strive to complete the assigned targets, in the last 3 months of the year, the city's trade unions at all levels will launch a special emulation movement in developing union members, establishing grassroots trade unions; introducing outstanding union members to the Party. Accordingly, attention should be paid to promoting forms of propaganda and mobilization in parallel with improving the quality of grassroots trade union activities to promptly care for, represent and attract workers to participate in the Trade Union organization.
