Consider supporting ship owners and crew members in distress in the fishing boat sinking near Co To

Văn Luận (báo lao động) 04/07/2026 08:44 (GMT+7)

On July 3, 2026, a fishing boat accident due to thunderstorms occurred in Quang Ninh waters, causing fishing boat QN-90568-TS to sink while on its way ashore to avoid the wind.

Mr. Le Quy Trong - Chairman of Hai Ha Fisheries Union (Quang Ninh) said that on July 3, 2026, fishing vessel QN-90568-TS owned and captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (residing in Phu Hai village, Quang Ha commune, Quang Ninh province) sank while on its way to shore to avoid storms, in an area about 10 nautical miles from Co To island. At the time of the accident, there were 7 crew members on board.

Immediately after the accident, Mr. Thanh contacted Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - owner of fishing vessel QN-80038-TS, and the Hai Ha Fisheries Union team - to request support.

At the same time, the Hai Ha Fisheries Union, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ninh province, along with the Border Guard, Navy, Fisheries Surveillance, local authorities and relevant forces, urgently deployed search and rescue work, mobilizing fishing boats operating near the area to participate in rescue.

At about 4 am, fishing boat QN-80038-TS rescued 5 crew members. At about 7 am, fishing boat HP-90886-TS, controlled by Mr. Dinh Khac Thanh (Hai Phong), continued to participate in the search for the remaining 2 people. By 12:10 pm on the same day, all 7 crew members were safely rescued, including boat owner Nguyen Van Thanh who was found drifting at sea and was taken to Co To for health care.

The incident did not cause any casualties, but fishing vessel QN-90568-TS along with all fishing gear, equipment and assets serving production completely sank, causing great property damage and affecting the lives of the ship owner and crew members. The rescue results show the timely coordination of functional forces and the spirit of mutual support between fishermen at sea.

Faced with that situation, Hai Ha Fisheries Union has submitted a report requesting the Vietnam Fisheries Union and agencies, units, and organizations to pay attention to considering supporting ship owners and crew members in distress;

At the same time, it is proposed to commend collectives and individuals with achievements in rescue work, typically Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, owner of ship QN-80038-TS and Mr. Dinh Khac Thanh, owner of ship HP-90886-TS and crew members participating in rescue.
