The secret to negotiating helps workers get more benefits
Can Tho - The substantiallegally based negotiation not only creates benefits for workers but also increases prestige with international customers.
Benefits associated with production efficiency
TRI-VIET International Company Limited is a 100% Japanese-owned enterprise, specializing in the production of gloves - leather handbags for export, with 1,106 employees. Of which, workers with increasingly high professional qualifications, the rate of trained workers reached 87%.
Mr. Quach Minh Thao - Chairman of the Company's grassroots trade union (CDCS) - said that during its operation, the unit always clearly defined: "Not only protecting rights, but also accompanying; not only making recommendations, but also proactively negotiating based on law and financial capacity. Over the years, the Company's Trade Union has persistently negotiated the Collective Labor Agreement (CLAs) in a practical direction, creating benefits higher than the law, maintaining stable production and reputation with international customers".

During the negotiation process, both sides agreed on the principle that the rights of employees must be associated with production efficiency; production efficiency can only be maintained when employees are assured of their commitment. Thanks to that, the policies have been significantly improved in quality, such as productivity bonuses, monthly bonuses; shift meals of VND 28,000/meal; overtime meals of VND 18,000/meal; periodic health check-ups of 100% of workers at a cost of nearly VND 745 million/year.
The holiday, Tet, and birthday gift regime is maintained annually; the meritorious visit, illness, surgery, and disadvantaged families are paid with a total cost of nearly 1.48 billion VND for 637 union members;... Many of these benefits exceed the minimum requirements of the law, increasing actual income and creating humanistic value in the style of Japanese enterprises.
Grassroots trade unions are an extension
During the development process of Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, the Trade Union has constantly changed and transformed its operations to adapt to the environment, lead and operate to maintain stability. To do this, the Trade Union has tried its best to create a harmonious relationship between foreign partners and Trade Union activities.
The Executive Board of the Trade Union must have a plan and action program based on practical activities, making foreign partners see and recognize the Vietnam Trade Union in general and the Company Trade Union in particular as an extension, an important factor in accompanying foreign partners to develop businesses and a solid support for the companys operations, said Mr. Vo Thanh Hung - Chairman of the Companys Trade Union.

With those efforts, the Trade Union has created trust. Through the dialogue, the Executive Board has proposed that employees at the company receive a continuous salary increase for 3 consecutive years from 2022 - 2025, especially in 2024, they will receive a double salary increase.
On that basis, activities to care for and protect the rights of employees are increasingly in-depth, appropriate, complete, and better than legal regulations through the signing of collective labor agreements, notably the activities of kindergartens at the company. On average, each year from the revenue from union funds, union fees and welfare funds deducted from profits, the grassroots trade union has spent over 20 billion VND/year on union members and employees.
According to the Can Tho City Labor Federation, in the 2023-2025 period, the unit is interested in implementing the Program "Focusing on performing the task of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees, focusing on negotiation, dialogue and wages". To date, the whole city has over 50% of valid collective labor agreements with type B or higher.
The City Trade Union sets a target that by the end of the 2025-2030 term, 100% of grassroots trade unions in public service units, state-owned enterprises and 80% of grassroots trade unions of non-state enterprises will negotiate and sign collective labor agreements.
