Trade unions help many workers win lawsuits when their rights are affected

Recently, the Trade Union Legal Advisory Center - Dong Nai Provincial Labor Federation (abbreviated as the Center) has supported and protected many workers who won lawsuits in court, demanding hundreds of millions of VND in benefits. Reporters from Lao Dong newspaper interviewed Mr. Vu Ngoc Ha - Director of the Center about this content.

- Reporter: Sir, what are the core and core activities of the Center?

Mr. Vu Ngoc Ha: Participating in representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers in court is a regular activity of the Center and has been implemented over the years.

Since the beginning of the year, the Center has participated in a series of labor cases, standing up to protect the rights of workers. Of which, the most focus is on cases related to businesses' late payment and evasion of social insurance and unemployment insurance (accounting for 90% of cases). This situation seriously affects the rights of workers such as not being able to settle retirement benefits, sick leave, maternity benefits, etc.

The center has represented workers and defended more than 100 labor cases at the Courts in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City over the lawsuit against enterprises related to social insurance. In addition, the Center also represents and supports employees in other cases related to unilateral business termination of contracts, disciplinary action against employees...

As a result, in September 2025, the Center supported 2 workers to win the lawsuit. Of which, there was 1 case of a worker (who lost) demanding protections of 186 million VND and 1 case of a worker with difficulty in mobilizing to demand rights of nearly 47 million VND. Previously, in August 2025, the Center also helped 1 employee win a lawsuit (both first instance and appeal) in the "dispute over disciplinary action in the form of dismissal" to demand benefits of more than 600 million VND.

- In addition to the "bright spots" that help workers win lawsuits in court, what regular activities does the Center carry out to support union members and workers?

Mr. Vu Ngoc Ha: Another content that the Center pays special attention to is the work of disseminating and disseminating laws to workers. This is a regular activity of the Center for many years, deployed to workers in factories in industrial parks and worker dormitories.

This time, the Center also promotes to union members and workers, focusing on social insurance content. Since the beginning of the year, the Center has coordinated to organize dozens of training and propaganda classes for thousands of workers in industrial parks, helping workers clearly understand the provisions of the law on social insurance.

The center has analyzed to help workers understand the disadvantages in the case of receiving one-time social insurance, when they are old, there will be no benefits. After being informed, union members and workers were very assured and continued to pay social insurance.

- It is known that the Center also supports grassroots trade unions in protecting the rights of union members and workers?

Mr. Vu Ngoc Ha: This year, the Center supports a grassroots trade union to file a lawsuit against a business, requesting an annual salary increase. After that, the Court held a mediation, and the enterprise agreed to increase the salary for employees according to the collective labor agreement signed by the union and the company.

Through the Center's support of grassroots trade unions in collective labor disputes, it has demonstrated the role of grassroots trade unions in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers.

To achieve the recent results, the Center has received a lot of attention and support from the Standing Committee of the Dong Nai Provincial Labor Federation, regarding operating expenses and especially support to create conditions for the Center to coordinate with relevant departments and branches to resolve labor cases, and best perform the task of protecting workers' rights.
