Union officials must grasp regulations on occupational safety and hygiene

At the end of the online contest "CNVCLD learn about occupational safety and hygiene" organized by the Labor Relations Department in coordination with Labor Magazine and Trade Union, Son La Provincial Federation of Labor with author Nguyen Le Anh (Song Ma - Sop Cop Tax Department, Son La Provincial Tax Department) won the Encouragement Prize.

His story was highly appreciated by the judges. Because he has shown an in-depth perspective from serious work accidents that occur nationwide.

"Recently, especially at the end of April 2024, May 2024 - the peak of the Labor Safety and Hygiene Action Month in 2024, serious labor accidents have occurred continuously across the country, shocking the public.

The accidents include: A particularly serious work accident at Yen Bai Cement Factory that killed 10 people; a firecracker explosion at Binh Minh Wood Production and Trading Company Limited (Dong Nai) that killed 6 people, injured 5 people...

These tragic incidents are a warning bell for all agencies, organizations and individuals about loopholes in ensuring occupational safety and hygiene" - Mr. Le Anh cited an example.

According to Mr. Le Anh, the State has issued a fairly complete system of legal documents on the work of ensuring occupational safety and hygiene. However, implementing it in practice is still a burning issue that needs to be resolved. Some fatal work accidents have been caused by authorities, including very serious violations.

"To improve those loopholes, I think we need to focus on the following issues: First of all, we must continue to raise awareness of workers, especially workers working in heavy, toxic, dangerous positions, often exposed to dangerous, harmful factors.

Workers must grasp and understand the processes, regulations, rules and regulations to ensure safety and hygiene at their workplace. When workers realize the meaning of the regulation in order to protect their own health and life, they will strictly comply" - Mr. Le Anh emphasized.

Analyzing the subjective causes, Mr. Le Anh said that in the accident at Yen Bai Cement Factory, workers did not comply with safety procedures. In addition, the enterprise has not fully developed plans to prevent occupational accidents and is not fully aware of building its reputation and brand to attract highly skilled union members and workers.

Through occupational accidents, Mr. Le Anh believes that an indispensable factor is the Trade Union organization, first of all the team of trade union officials who need to continue to consolidate their knowledge of occupational safety and hygiene.

First of all, union officials must grasp the regulations to propagate, mobilize, participate in inspection and supervision of implementation in groups, teams and production. However, to do a good job of occupational safety and hygiene, each individual and organization must be responsible for contributing to bringing the regulations into life.

Through the contest, he also understood more about the importance of this work as well as the determination and efforts of the Vietnam Trade Union in caring for, representing and protecting workers. As a union member, he will actively propagate and mobilize his family and those around him to always raise awareness of ensuring safety in life and work.

Comrade Nguyen Quy Huan - Head of the Song Ma - Sop Cop Tax Department shared that the team of civil servants, public employees, and workers in state management agencies and public service agencies often have a subjective mentality towards occupational safety and hygiene. In particular, traveling on remote mountainous terrain also has the potential risk of slippery, falling... and other dangers when the weather is not favorable.

The contest is a meaningful form of propaganda in reminding each cadre, civil servant, public employee, and worker to proactively learn knowledge to protect their own health.

Comrade Ho Thi Kim Ngan - Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that the contest was held for the first time on a national scale in 2024, practically responding to the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene in 2024, celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (28/7/1929 - 28/7/2024).

This is a very large and comprehensive body of knowledge about this work.

For the paper, the Jury evaluated it according to the criteria of consistency, clarity, authenticity, and convincement; expressed correct, profound, and comprehensive awareness of the problem; had a convincing, genuine connection to reality.
