HCMC promotes greening of production, promotes green economy
Faced with the challenges of climate change and the increasing demand for environmental protection, many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have proactively greened production and applied environmentally friendly technology. This is an inevitable trend and a key factor in promoting the city's green economy.
Efforts to greening the factory The Trade Union of Thanh Cong Textile, Garment and Trading Investment Joint Stock Company is one of the leading enterprises in the production greening movement in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc - Deputy Head of the Textile and Garment Industry under the company's trade union - said that the unit is making efforts to protect the environment through two key strategies: developing green products and minimizing production impacts. "We are moving towards the global trend of environmental protection, in addition, customers also tend to order using recycled and organic fibers. This process helps reduce wastewater discharge into the environment, saves energy and water resources, and provides safe products for users" - Mr. Phuc shared.
To achieve this goal, the unit has synchronously deployed many solutions.Invest in the Business Research and Development Center (R&BD) to develop environmentally friendly products, using recycled materials from plastic bottles, used clothes and biological materials from sugarcane, corn, natural wood, seaweed.
On the other hand, it is gradually shifting from using coal fuel to bio-mass biomass, upgrading machinery and equipment to save energy, applying a waste classification system at source, investing in a solar power system and a RO water filtration system.At the same time, research and propose initiatives to improve the production process of organic and recycled fibers, in order to reduce the amount of chemicals used in the production process.
Greening urban agriculture with high-tech aquaculture Not only in the industrial sector, the "greening" movement of production also spreads strongly in the urban agricultural sector in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Lam Tuan Ngoc - founder of Tuan Ngoc Agricultural Cooperative - has pioneered the application of high-tech aquaculture methods to produce clean vegetables.
"Before entering this field, we carefully researched clean vegetable growing techniques and decided to choose the method of growing water spinach, including a life cycle system and a droplet system.Equipment from the greenhouse to the irrigation system are all designed according to Israeli standards and are automatically controlled" - Mr. Tuan Ngoc said.
With a planting area of over 7,000m2, Tuan Ngoc Cooperative harvests from 800 to 1,000kg of vegetables per day.To "green" the production process, the cooperative has implemented many solutions such as: Installing a solar power system on the roof to save electricity; using electric vehicles to transport vegetables to reduce environmental pollution; applying water-saving measures and limiting the use of nylon bags...
Mr. Tuan Ngoc commented that the Ho Chi Minh City government is encouraging cooperatives and households to apply environmental protection measures, using renewable energy and minimizing dependence on available energy sources.
Support policy from the government Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association (HUBA) - said that for an export-oriented economy like Vietnam, green transformation of businesses is considered a vital task.
According to him, the application of the European Union (EU) to the carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has set an urgent requirement for Vietnamese export enterprises.
"According to HUBA's survey, businesses that do a good job of environmental protection and green production are having abundant orders.This shows that greening factories, using clean energy and renewable energy is a "guard" for businesses to expand their export market share and improve the capacity to supply products and goods to the domestic market" - Mr. Hoa said.
The Ho Chi Minh City government has had practical support policies for green transformation businesses.Most recently, the interest support program under Resolution 98/2023 of the National Assembly has included green- converted enterprises in the group of beneficiaries for preferential loans.
The efforts of businesses and the support of the government are creating a strong driving force for the greening of production in Ho Chi Minh City, both improving competitiveness and contributing to building a green, clean, beautiful city and sustainable development.
