Go Vap District in Ho Chi Minh City proposes to merge 12 wards into 6 new wards

Currently, Go Vap district has a natural area of over 19.73 km2, with a population of over 670,000 people, divided into 12 wards.

According to the new proposal, the district will merge wards according to the "2 combined 1" method, thereby forming 6 new wards. This arrangement will reduce the number of ward-level administrative units by half, from 12 to 6 wards.

Hanh Thong ward is proposed to be formed from the merger of the original wards 1 and 3, with a natural area of 3.37 km2 and a population of 127,125 people.

An Nhon ward was established from the merger of ward 5 and ward 6, with an area of 3.23 km2 and a population of 96,717 people.

Go Vap ward was established from the merger of ward 10 and ward 17, with an area of 2.81 km2, population of 99,629 people.

Thong Tay Hoi ward is formed from ward 8 and ward 11, with an area of 3.24 km2 and a population of 118,826 people.

An Hoi Tay ward is a merger between ward 12 and ward 14, with an area of 3.81 km2 and a population of 115,989 people.

An Hoi Dong ward will merge ward 15 and ward 16, with an area of 3.29 km2 and a population of 112,067 people.

Previously, at the end of 2024, Go Vap District reorganized 8 wards into 4 wards according to Resolution 1278 of the National Assembly Standing Committee. Specifically: merge wards 1, 4 and 7 into wards 1; wards 8 and 9 into wards 8; ward 14 and part of ward 13 into ward 14; the rest of ward 13 will be merged into ward 15.

It is expected that this afternoon (September 15), the 39th Conference of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Executive Committee will be held to discuss the project to reorganize administrative units at all levels and build a model of organizing local government at 2 levels.
