Festival of national reunification, preserving enduring values for the future

Great achievement

51 years ago, under the leadership of the Central Party Committee, with the courageous and creative fighting spirit of the army and people, along with international support, the Vietnamese nation achieved the great victory of the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring 1975, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South, and unifying the country.

That victory has been recorded in the history of our nation as one of the most brilliant golden pages, has gone down in world history as the greatest feat of the 20th century, an event of great international stature and profound contemporary significance.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director, Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth - analyzed that the great victory of Spring 1975 is a symbol of faith, will, aspiration for independence, freedom, and national reunification, is the glorious end of a period of history full of hardships and challenges, opening up a new era for the Vietnamese nation - an era of independence and freedom. This victory is a fulcrum for the belief, will, and determination to win of the entire nation in the current context.

More than 10 years after the great victory of Spring 1975, when the country escaped the war, in 1986, the 6th Party Congress proposed a renovation policy and marked the beginning of the renovation period, bringing the country out of poverty and towards the aspiration for prosperity. After 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements in socio-economic development, cultural and human development, social security and people's lives are increasingly improved, national defense and security are constantly consolidated and strengthened, foreign relations and international integration are elevated, and many outstanding results have been achieved.

The political report at the 14th Party Congress stated that our country's economic growth in the period 2021 - 2025 averaged about 6.2%/year, belonging to the group of high-growth countries in the region and the world, especially economic growth in 2025 reached 8.02%, creating a solid foundation for the growth target of 10% or more from 2026 and subsequent years.

GDP scale in 2025 reached over 514 billion USD, 1.48 times higher than in 2020, ranked 32nd in the world, GDP per capita reached 5.026 USD, joining the group of high-middle-income countries, highly appreciated by many prestigious international organizations.

Historic rendezvous of patriotism

According to Dr. Le Trung Kien - Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, April 30 every year has become the festival of national reunification. This is not only an anniversary but also a message sent to everyone, reminding, to know how to cherish the achievement of unification, of today's peace.

This is also an opportunity to honor the immortal feats of arms, the sacrifices of the people of the South and North in realizing the aspiration for unification, independence and freedom, implementing President Ho Chi Minh's sacred incantation "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese nation is one, rivers can dry, mountains can wear away, but that truth will never change".

The Festival of National Unity has noble meaning and great stature associated with the history of national defense of our nation. Proud of the glorious milestone imprinted in the nation's history, we can even more clearly feel and see the great power of great national unity with the foundation being the blood-and-flesh relationship between the army and the people in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland" - Dr. Le Trung Kien analyzed.

From the aspiration to unify the country back then, the country stepped into a new page, carrying the aspiration to build a powerful and prosperous Vietnam, on par with the five continental powers as the wish of beloved Uncle Ho.
