Lao Cai relocates 950 households to serve the railway project connecting to China
Lao Cai - On the afternoon of April 11, the Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to announce information about the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Construction Investment Project, the section passing through the area.
At the press conference, a representative of the Railway Project Management Board said: The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway construction investment project was approved by the National Assembly in Resolution 187/2025/QH15 dated February 19. 2025.
Of which, the total length of the main route is 390.9 km (Lao Cai Station - Lach Huyen Port Station section is 385.8 km long, Lao Cai Station - rail connection point is 5.1 km long); 3 branch routes are about 27.9 km; the route route coverage passes through Lao Cai province about 65 km (Lao Cai city, Bao Thang district, Bao Yen district and Van Ban district).
The total investment is VND 203,231 billion, of which compensation and resettlement support costs are VND 35,751 billion.

The route is expected to have 18 stations (3 train stations, 15 mixed stations) and 13 technical processing stations, of which in Lao Cai province there are 2 stations and 2 technical processing stations.
According to the Department of Construction, based on the results of the local external industrial measurements, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province has agreed on the list of projects to build resettlement areas for the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, and assigned localities to carry out investment preparation work, including 16 projects with a total estimated investment of more than 290 billion VND.

According to preliminary statistics, about 950 households and 91 production facilities in Pho Moi, Dong Pho Moi and Son Man - Van Hoa industrial clusters will have to be relocated.
It is expected to be arranged in 19 areas, of which 12 urban areas and residential areas have been built, are eligible for arrangement or have been approved with a detailed plan; propose the construction of 7 new planning points, and combine on-site resettlement arrangement plans for small households (residential groups).

Speaking at the press conference, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Trong Hai said that this railway project is of strategic scale, helping to form an East-West transport network, connecting the Northwest with Hai Phong seaport and the Chinese market, opening up opportunities for urban development, trade, logistics and tourism for the whole region.
Lao Cai province is committed to continuing to closely coordinate with the Railway Project Management Board and relevant ministries and branches to remove difficulties, complete tasks in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction, and be ready to hand over the site to serve the groundbreaking in December 2025.
