Hanoi expands arterial roads, builds more bridges to reduce congestion
Hanoi - National Highway 6, Ba La - Xuan Mai section, is widened to 50-60 m, many bridges on the route will also be built.
National Highway 6 is a vital axis, connecting Hanoi with Hoa Binh (now Phu Tho) and the Northwestern provinces. In fact, National Highway 6 through Hanoi has been degraded and overloaded for many years, causing frequent traffic jams and accidents.
To solve the above situation, at the end of 2022, the Hanoi People's Committee started the project to expand National Highway 6 from Ba La to Xuan Mai with a length of about 21.7 km.

The starting point of the project is located at km14 in Ba La, Ha Dong district (now Yen Nghia ward); the end point is km38, Xuan Mai town, Chuong My district (now Xuan Mai commune).
The project has 5 construction packages, including items: Synchronous construction of roadbed, water supply and drainage, technical cable cars, lighting, trees, 8 road bridges, 1 newly built box culvert.
The project has a total investment of over VND9,590 billion, invested by the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, implemented in the period of 2022-2027.
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the investor is currently focusing on implementing the construction of construction items on the site that has been handed over.
Specifically, the construction of the roadbed and road surface for the expansion part of packages No. 03, 04; construction of works on the route such as Dong Tru bridge, Tan Truong bridge, Xuan Mai bridge girder casting, Quan Lat bridge and casting of box culverts, Nam Lu culverts, embankment construction, retaining walls...
In addition, the investor is coordinating the construction of the overpass at the Ring Road 4 intersection.

The Hanoi People's Committee said that the project implementation progress is still slow due to difficulties and problems in site clearance (GPMB).
According to statistics, in Chuong My district (old), about 51.46ha/85.4ha (reaching a rate of 60%) have been handed over. Of which, the area of land handed over is agricultural land, residential land has not been cleared. However, the site for handover is unfinished, not connected to the route, and the technical infrastructure and architectural works have not been moved.
In Ha Dong district (old), the site has not yet been handed over. Currently, the investor is only constructing a small part of the public land area and the intersection with Ring Road 4.

Currently, the communes and wards where the project passes through are focusing on implementing land acquisition and site clearance to hand over to the project investor.
On December 24, 2025, the Standing Committee of Phu Nghia Commune Party Committee worked with the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed on a roadmap to complete the project's site clearance work. Specifically: By March 31, 2026, the confirmation of land and population origin will be completed; by April 15, 2026, the entire compensation and support plan on National Highway 6 through the commune will be completed. From April 15 to May 15, 2026, resettlement support will be paid to eligible households.
In case the households do not hand over the site, from May 15, 2026, the commune will implement enforcement plans.
"The commune's viewpoint is that everything must be clear with the person in charge, clear with the content of the work and clear with the completion time limit. The progress milestones have been specifically determined; timely correction and handling of delays. The goal is to complete all site clearance work by June 30, 2026, creating conditions for projects to be implemented synchronously," informed the leader of Phu Nghia Commune People's Committee.
