Gia Lai completes a rapid campaign to rebuild shelters for people

HOÀI PHƯƠNG (báo lao động) 15/01/2026 08:00 (GMT+7)

Gia Lai has completed a rapid campaign to rebuild shelters for people in flood-affected areas; 23 houses built by the people themselves, on a large scale, will be completed before Tet.

Storm No. 13 and the historic flood that occurred in November 2025 caused more than 51,800 houses in Gia Lai to be flooded; 28,196 houses were collapsed/damaged, severely damaged; killed 5 people, injured 11 people; caused serious damage to socio-economic infrastructure... The total estimated damage is over 11,500 billion VND.

Implementing the "Quang Trung Campaign", Gia Lai province has completed the repair of 27,522 severely damaged houses. Of the total 674 houses that collapsed and needed to be rebuilt, 651 have been completed; 23 houses were built by the people themselves, large in scale, with multi-storey structures, so they were completed outside the campaign schedule.

On January 14, Mr. Cao Thanh Thuong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province - said that up to this point, the implementation of the "Quang Trung Campaign" in the province has basically been completed. For the remaining 23 houses, the province will continue to support people to complete before January 2026.

"Although these 23 houses are part of the campaign, because people need to build them themselves with a scale of 2-3 floors, an area of 100-200m2, high requirements for quality and aesthetics, it cannot be completed according to the general schedule. Up to now, it can be affirmed that the Quang Trung Campaign in Gia Lai has completed the set goals," said Mr. Thuong.

Previously, on January 12, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung and the Central Working Group inspected and worked with the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee on the progress and results of the implementation of the "Quang Trung Campaign" - the rapid construction and repair of houses for people affected by storms and floods, and early rebuilding the shelters before the Lunar New Year 2026.

Through inspecting the actual implementation of the campaign, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung praised the drastic participation of the entire political system; the active and responsible support of the military and police forces, contributing to helping the locality basically complete the set progress.

"Nearly 28,000 severely damaged houses have been repaired, this is a very encouraging result. The remaining 23 houses have complex structures, the province must be determined and mobilize forces to complete them; if necessary, continue to request support from the army and police to ensure that people have a place to enjoy Spring and celebrate Tet. Up to this point, it can be said that the Quang Trung Campaign has been a success," Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung directed.
