On the occasion of April 30, Can Tho plans to start a $230 million project

Mr. Vo Nhut Quang - Deputy Director of the Department of Finance of Can Tho City - said that Can Tho's GRDP in the first quarter of 2025 grew by 7.15% over the same period. The economic structure shows that the service sector continues to play a leading role, accounting for 53.01%, followed by the industrial and construction sector (30.38%), the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector (10.25%), and product taxes minus product subsidies (6.36%).

Notably, the city's industrial production index (IIP) also recorded a growth rate of 6.78%. In particular, the manufacturing and processing industry took the lead with an increase of 7.95%, showing the strong recovery and development of the manufacturing sector.

Other industries such as electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased by 1.29%, along with water supply, waste management and treatment, and wastewater increased by 0.48%.

The trade - service sector continues to play an important role in Can Tho's economic growth, with total retail sales of goods and service revenue estimated at VND 35,267.02 billion, up 12.99% over the first quarter of 2024, and completing 24.32% of the annual plan.

In the context of the economic development, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen shared about new growth drivers in the coming time.

According to the Chairman of the City People's Committee, on the occasion of the April 30 celebration, Can Tho plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the VSIP secondary factory on April 25, further expanding the industrial development potential of the area.

Following this momentum, on April 28, Aeon Mall with an investment capital of about 230 million USD will start construction, implemented in Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city; with a total construction floor area of the entire project of about 195,073 m2 (excluding the basement). Aeon Mall Can Tho Commercial Center project promises to breathe new life into the city's retail and service market.

Not stopping there, Can Tho is speeding up the completion of land procedures for the O Mon Thermal Power Plant Project Cluster, creating a solid foundation for the implementation of two large-scale power plants in 2025. Each plant has a total estimated investment capital of 1.3 billion USD. In particular, the city aims to start construction of O Mon 4 Power Plant (capacity 1,500 MW, capital of 1.3 billion USD) in September 2025.

In addition, promoting support to remove difficulties for businesses as a driving force to contribute to boosting growth in the remaining quarters to achieve the growth target of 9.5% according to the Resolution assigned by the City People's Council in 2025.
