General Phan Van Giang visits and works with Division 5, Military Region 7

On the afternoon of November 12, 2025, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, had a working session with Division 5 (Military Region 7) on the results of military mission implementation in the first 10 months of the year and the direction and tasks in the coming time.

Also attending were Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, and representatives of the functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense and the Military Region 7 Command.

Before the working session, the Minister of National Defense and the working delegation offered incense and flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial House and the Memorial Area for the Heroes and Martyrs of Division 5 - where nearly 46,000 martyrs were recognized for their heroic sacrifices in the resistance wars, protecting the southwestern border and performing international missions to help Cambodia. Division 5, established on November 23, 1965, was one of the first two main divisions on the battlefield of the Southeast region.

At the meeting, Colonel Nguyen Hai Nam, Division Commander of Division 5, reported the results of military mission implementation in the first 10 months of 2025, and the direction of tasks in the coming time. The Party Committee and the Division Command have strictly complied with the resolutions, orders and directives of the Military Region and the Ministry of National Defense; maintained regular order and combat readiness; closely coordinated with the police and localities to maintain political security, social order and safety; participated in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue; organized training, practice, strict discipline compliance, and built a strong and comprehensive regular order.

Concluding the working session, General Phan Van Giang praised the spirit of solidarity, efforts, and responsibility of officers and soldiers of Division 5 in performing assigned tasks. The Minister requested the Party Committee and the Division Command to continue reviewing, supplementing and perfecting the 2025 work program and plan; comprehensively, resolutely and effectively implementing key targets and tasks. Along with that, it is necessary to closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and forces in the area, grasp the political security situation, social order and safety, promptly handle situations, avoid being passive or surprised; strictly maintain combat readiness, ensure absolute safety of people, weapons and equipment.

The General emphasized that the Division needs to continue to pay attention to training, physical training, political and ideological education, taking good care of the material and spiritual life of the army; focusing on building a clean and strong Party Committee, a comprehensively strong agency and unit that is "exemplary and typical".

The Minister believes that officers and soldiers of Division 5 will continue to promote the heroic tradition, the spirit of " acts of solidarity, bravery, flexibility, self-reliance, defeating all enemy", successfully completing the tasks in 2025, contributing to building a strong and comprehensive armed force of Military Region 7, meeting the requirements of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
