Ministry of Home Affairs submits to the Government a plan for extending Tet Nguyen Dan 2027 holiday to 7 days

At the Q3/2026 press conference organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the afternoon of September 11, Deputy Director of the Department of Employment Nguyen Thi Quyen said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has just submitted a report on the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday plan to the Government. The 2027 Lunar New Year holiday plan will last 7 days.

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed that the Government have 5 days off for Tet according to regulations, including 2 days before Tet and 3 days after Tet. Because 2 weekly days off coincide with Tet holidays, civil servants and public employees are entitled to compensatory 2 days off according to regulations.

Thus, during the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees are off from Thursday, February 4, 2027 Gregorian calendar (December 28 of the Binh Ngo year) to the end of Wednesday, February 10, 2027 Gregorian calendar (January 5 of the Dinh Mui year)”, Ms. Quyen said.

According to a representative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the plan is proposed based on summarizing the opinions of ministries, sectors, and units, and at the same time creating conditions for people working far from home to have time to travel and prepare for Tet.

For employees in the business sector, Ms. Quyen clearly stated that employers can choose one of two options: 1 day off at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 4 days off at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui; 2 days off at the end of the year and 3 days off at the beginning of the Lunar New Year.

Allowing choice is to create conditions for businesses to arrange holiday schedules suitable for production and business activities.

Regarding the proposal to postpone Vietnam Culture Day, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has reported to the Government and is currently awaiting opinions.

According to Ms. Quyen, this content was included by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the report sent to the Government along with the holiday and Tet plan.
