The 14th Central Executive Committee held its first meeting to elect the General Secretary

On January 22, the 14th National Party Congress worked all day to discuss and implement the contents of the personnel work of the 14th Party Central Committee.

The Congress elected the 14th Central Executive Committee of 200 people, including 180 official Central Committee members and 20 alternate members.

According to the elected results, out of 16 Politburo members of the 13th tenure, 10 were re-elected to the 14th Central Executive Committee.

Among them, there are 3 key leaders of the Party and State, namely: General Secretary To Lam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu.

7 members of the 13th Politburo re-elected to the 14th Central Committee, including: Head of the Central Organization Committee Le Minh Hung; Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Van Chien; General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc.

According to the announced program, on the morning of January 23, the 14th Party Central Committee held its first conference. On the same afternoon, the 14th Congress held its closing session.

The Party Election Regulations are implemented according to Decision 190/2024 of the Central Executive Committee. According to regulations, the first Central Conference will elect the Politburo, General Secretary, Secretariat, Central Inspection Committee, and Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee.

For the Politburo, the election process is regulated in 9 steps:

1. The first meeting of the Party Central Committee is opened by the General Secretary (reappointed or not reappointed) as a calling member and chaired until the election of the Conference Presidium is completed. In case the General Secretary of the previous term cannot be a summoner, the Presidium of the Congress shall send a summoner.

2. The Presidium of the Party Central Committee Conference reported on the project and proposed the number of Politburo members to be elected.

3. Conference to discuss and vote on the number of Politburo members.

4. The Presidium reported on the list of comrades nominated by the Party Central Committee in advance to the Politburo.

5. Campaign and nomination.

6. Group meeting for discussion.

7. The Presidium compiled a list of self-nominants and nominees; proposed cases that were withdrawn and not withdrawn from the election list, and reported to the conference for consideration and decision.

8. Make an election list, the conference will vote through the number and list of Politburo elections.

9. Election, vote counting, election results announcement.

The process of electing the General Secretary consists of 5 steps:

1. The Presidium reported on the requirements, standards for the General Secretary and the expected personnel for the General Secretary before being introduced by the Party Central Committee, the introduction opinions of the new Politburo, and the results of the introduction of the General Secretary's personnel for the conference for reference.

2. Group meeting to discuss and conduct candidations and nominations.

3. The Presidium compiles the list of self-calculated and nominated candidates; proposes cases that are withdrawn and not withdrawn from the election list, reports to the conference for consideration and decision; collects conference opinions for candidates nominated at the conference (if necessary).

4. Make an election list, the conference votes through the number and election list.

5. Election, vote counting, election results announcement.

The process of electing the Secretariat consists of 8 steps:

1. The General Secretary, on behalf of the Presidium of the Party Central Committee Conference, reported on the project and suggested the number of Secretariat members to be elected.

2. Conference to discuss and vote on the number of Secretariat members.

3. The Presidium reported on the list of comrades nominated by the Party Central Committee to the Secretariat.

4. Campaign and nomination.

5. Group meeting for discussion.

6. The Presidium compiled a list of self-nominants and nominees; proposed cases that were withdrawn and not withdrawn from the election list, and reported to the conference for consideration and decision.

7. Make an election list, conference to vote through the number and election list of the Secretariat.

8. Election, vote counting, election results announcement.

The process of electing the Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee consists of 5 steps.

1. The Presidium reported on the requirements and standards for the Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee; personnel proposed by the Party Central Committee (if any) and the recommendations of the new Politburo.

2. Campaign and nomination.

3. The Presidium compiled a list of self-nominants and nominees; proposed cases that were withdrawn and not withdrawn from the election list, and reported to the conference for consideration and decision.
