3 national highways through Thanh Hoa are being repaired with more than 191 billion VND
The Ministry of Construction said that in 2025, the unit will spend more than 191 billion to repair National Highway 217, National Highway 47 and National Highway 16 through Thanh Hoa.
Thanh Hoa voters have just proposed that the Ministry of Construction soon submit to the Government to implement the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 217 through Vinh Loc district and the section passing through Ha Dong commune, Ha Linh commune, connecting to the intersection of the North-South expressway. The investment project to upgrade and expand National Highway 47 from Thuong Xuan town to Cua Kheo border gate is included in the public investment plan for the period 2026-2030.
Voters of Quan Hoa district (Thanh Hoa) also proposed that the Ministry of Construction expand and upgrade National Highway 16 to connect with Provincial Road 521 and National Highway 15A from Van Ho district, Son La province to Trung Son commune, Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province. The project aims to connect traffic and promote economic development between Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province with Van Ho district, Moc Chau district, Son La province. The project also aims to shorten the distance (about 50km), reducing the cost of transporting goods between Son La province and Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa province.
Regarding the content of the voters' petition, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 217 through Thanh Hoa province is 210 km long, 2 to 4 lanes. The current status of the section passing through Vinh Loc district and the section passing through Ha Dong commune, Ha Linh commune has a scale of level V.
National Highway 47 through Thanh Hoa province is 140 km long, with 2 to 4 lanes. Current status of the section from Thuong Xuan town to Keo border gate with a scale of level V.
According to the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 16 through Thanh Hoa province is 195.7 km long, level IV scale, 2 lanes. Current status is mountainous areas with a scale of level IV, 2 lanes.
In the period of 2021 - 2025, due to difficulties in capital sources, it is not possible to allocate capital to invest in expanding the above national highways.
Currently, implementing the Road Law and Decree No. 165/2024/ND-CP dated the Government, the Ministry of Construction has issued Document No. 623/BXD-KHTC dated March 19, 2025 to the Ministry of Finance on transferring assets on the national highway to be transferred to the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province for management, including National Highway 217 and National Highway 47, National Highway 16 through Thanh Hoa province.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Construction will coordinate with the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province to report to competent authorities for consideration and allocation of investment capital to upgrade and expand National Highway 217 through Vinh Loc district (the section passing through Ha Dong commune, Ha Linh commune) and National Highway 47 from Thuong Xuan town to Keo Border Gate and National Highway 16 in the 2026 - 2030 period).
To ensure traffic safety on the route, the Ministry of Construction has assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to carry out regular maintenance and periodic repair work in 2024 with a budget of about VND81.085 billion, in 2025 it will allocate about VND142.399 billion to continue maintaining, repairing, ensuring safe operation and facilitating people's travel.
For National Highway 16, the Ministry of Construction has assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to carry out regular maintenance and periodic repair work in 2024 with a budget of about VND 29.437 billion, in 2025 it will allocate about VND 48.728 billion to continue maintaining, repairing, ensuring safe operation and facilitating people's travel.
